I compressed a nerve in my forearm and I had the same thing, couldn’t move my hand or fingers at all and no one could tell me when it would go back to normal. It lasted 4 months, it started to come good after electro stimulation. It totally killed my mental health during that time. The fact yours lasted years, and the reason why yours stopped working… man what an inspiration!! I wish I had seen this when I was going through it! Well done!!
