I will show you how to improve Photo or Image Quality from Low to High using Photoshop CS6. This can help you make your photos look best. I think this is the easiest way to make low resolution photos to high resolution.

This is a basic Photoshop Tutorial

In this video I am using Photoshop CS6, but you can use any versions of Photoshop (CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6, CC, etc.)

You're just replacing the pixelated look with a blurred look, the quality does not get much affected.

Basically, he's blowing up a low res image into a bigger low res image. The low res doesn't get sharper (like in crime scene movies when the lab tech magically transforms the blurry pic into a sharp image). But its a good first step. If its a 72dpi of a persons face I magnify it no more than 400-600. Any bigger and you're wasting time and processing speed.

Then I make a duplicate layer and execute a smart blur on that top layer. (try a few iterations until the skin is non pixellated and smooth, with the edges around the eyes are fairly sharp with some delineation. Doesn't have to be perfect, its the skin tone that's important) This smooths out the surface skin quality, and leaves the eyes, nose and mouth somewhat distinct edges. Ignore the loss of detail in the eyes and lips because we'll discard those. I carefully erase the eyes, parts of the nose and mouth from the top layer (take your time, make dabs instead of one long erasure and undo frequently till its just right).

Then you have to do some work with your blur tool, set at minimum anywhere from 5-9 and low pressure like 7-20% (experiment and switch back and forth) delineating around the eyes, the pupils, the lips and the nose least of all on that BOTTOM layer. You want to carefully blur the pixels in these tiny features like the lips, teeth, pupils and lashes as if you're painting them. Its like smearing a q-tip on water soluble color pencil. This takes about an hour with some practice if you're a beginner. But, you will have a portrait with the most important features recognizable and clear. This will ACTUALLY like a higher res image. You can flatten the two layers and save as a jpeg or png of course in the end.

I won't go over the hair, which can be on the bottom or upper smoothed layer depending on the original resolution. But you can clean it up like the bottom layer, as well as the edges of the face as well.

Most important note. Do this first portrait. Do a different one a day later. Then the third. By the third, you will want to go back to the first portrait and redo it because you'll have come closer to attaining perfection.

When you changed the resolution from 72 to 300 dpi, the pixel dimensions automatically increased. Why then did you need to increase the pixel dimensions a second time??

People, the real solution to this problem is simply to START OFF AT A HIGH RESOLUTION!!! You can use all the masks and filters you want, but at the end of it all you're still going to have a blurry image even if you reduce the noise. There's going to be low quality. The best fix for this after all the redundant blurring and sharpening is a long and tedious process of brushing and color sampling to create otherwise nonexistent details. Just shoot the photo in high res with a decent camera and lighting. You'll save yourself a lot of hardship.

Yea, you cannot make a low res pic into a hi res pic.

So many haters. If you take a photo and sample it and make it larger and it no longer has jaggies you now have a higher resolution photo and thanks to it being 2019, or algorithms or some shit, this kind of thing is possible.
