Awesome lesson man, this is a nice breakdown of basic polyrhythms. I’m more of a 7 against 3 guy but this is really the essential stuff that everyone needs to know to get there, and thats whats really important. Keep up the good work man!

thanks the formula is an interesting, helpful approach. I couldn't at all follow the way you notated the 7 over 9 For example it seemed like the 5th note of the 9 quarter notes would be coming in late?

I just subscribed. As a long time bass player, I find learning the drums is helping to inform my bass playing.

Great summary over that rather complicated notion! Love the notation. So sleek and simple.

I have a question: which one (polythythm) did you study next? 5:2? Or other ?

Cheers from Switzerland 🇨🇭

Amazing channels! I am very much new to drumming, so I wonder whether a polyrhythm is defined only for coprime (not common divisors) divisions? Certainly the formula assumes that, but I wanted to double check! Thank you for such an amazing content!

Hi,
i didnt get the formula description,

take two notes divide each one into
three, and only play every second one

1• 2x 3x 4• 5x 6x - digits are order of notes
"every 2nd" note would be
2x 4• 6x

but you get "every 2nd" as
1• 3x 4• 5x

I guess I missing something, but.

upd: looks like every second note should play after playing first note as first)

Hi. Congratulations. Great lessons!
The Ari Hoening (from jazz heaven lesson on coordination) 4 over 3 given me the headache; normal jazz ride pattern on the right, with polyrhythm quarter notes on left. He says they do not overlap (the triplet feel on the right against the four on the left) but your explanation seems to imply that they do. Any help? Thanks
