I almost always hear about the topic of second wave feminism and race in terms of the whitewashing and exclusion, which is to say, focusing on what the white women did. It is really nifty to hear some discussion about what other groups of women were actually doing.

Wow, I had no idea about the sterilization thing, that is so shocking and horrible. Why don't they teach this stuff in school?! Also thank you so much for educating me Cristen.

Despite what everyone wants to believe, very little has changed. White men, still in 2016 say vulgar things to me as if it were acceptable, and act like innocent lambs when I call them on it. The 'good' news is that none of them are young.

Millennials, on the other hand, understand how to treat women with respect since they were raised by open minded parents. Thank you, gentlemen for believing that civility is how you conduct yourself regularly, with everyone. Nobody has the option to toss good manners aside when you're around a woman with more melanin than you. Please remind your elders of this.

Hi Cristen can you talk about the 'White, Fat and Ugly modern day feminist?' I've heard some men(mostly white) and some women talk about how that's your everyday feminist. Also can you talk about about interracial relationship stigma and people of color who ask for equality but call out other women/men of colour as they 'betrayed their people' because they are with white people and not 'their own'. Isn't that still racism? I see this all the time on social media, and I'm baffled by it, as even though it's 2016 we still(some) haven't made much progress mentally

Definitely interesting to hear about this! I wish they taught more of this side in schools. The topic was only glossed over, which is a different problem, but these issues were never even mentioned. It's a shame, it's important!

Loving this series! Really enjoying learning more about the women who got us to where we are today, even if history is trying to whitewash them out.

yes it is great to see people of different backgrounds openly talking about race/class/gender / sexuality etc . We really need more people to understand that discussion and understanding is what unites us all! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽.

I can't say why, I love your videos and explanations so much. You just handle this "emotional loaded" topics with creativity, smartness and a sharp humor, it's incredible. I am not just learning about black feminism (here in Germany it's totally unknown) but also how to make a good video. Stay cool and smart as you are and share your awareness with us :)

Thank you for continuing making educated videos about feminism and encouraging us all to question why things are the way that they are.

Stuff You Missed in History Class did an awesome two-part podcast about Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and I highly recommend checking it out.
There is SO much more about the whole thing than I was ever taught.

SYMiHC also did a run of episodes about Loving v Virginia, Brown v Board, Plessy v Ferguson, and Mendez v Westminster.

Getting more than just a blurb or short paragraph in schoolbooks doesn't do justice to the whole situation, and I'm glad I was able to learn more.
Check it out!

I still would like to hear more about the feminist movement outside of the US. All to often when people talk about feminism, it is from an American perspective. But what about the movement in Europe? The disparity in equality between the different countries. The lack of racial diversity until fairly recent. The historical impact of countries that have existed for centuries. Different laws. Different accomplishments. There are so many things that is different. If possible I would love to see more about my neighbouring countries and more awareness about other countries than the typical west, like Asia. Countries like Japan and South Korea. The anglocentricism of the feminist debate do lessen the voices of feminism from other cultures.

Not that this takes away from the feminism in the US or the specific struggles of black women. I just find it to be very quite in regards to the rest of the world.
