In this video I cover what I think are 6 of the best credit card options for those who are new to credit cards, those who are college students, or those who are trying to build their credit back up. ▼▼

How I Make My Videos:

The 6 BEST Beginners Starter Credit Cards in 2021 (Build your credit FAST)

The biggest benefit of using credit cards, provided you use them wisely, is that they’re the single best way to build a credit history and get a credit score.

Your credit score is a number between 300 to 850. Anything over 670 is considered good, and anything over 800 is considered excellent. And what happens when you have excellent credit?
You’re able to qualify for big loans, like mortgages and auto financing, and you’ll get better terms, like lower interest rates. And when you’re talking about a big loan, like a mortgage, even a small break on the interest rate can save you thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars over the long term.

Okay, but what if you aren’t planning on taking out a loan anytime soon? Do you still need a credit history and a credit score?

It’s still helpful because credit is one of those things that landlords check before they let you rent an apartment. In some cases, employers will run credit checks on job applicants, and if you ever want a line of credit for a business you start, chances are your lender will look at your personal credit history before approving it. Everyone wants to see that you’ve got a good track record of being responsible with money.

But credit cards come with a kind of Catch 22: it’s almost impossible to build a credit history without a credit card, but it’s really hard to get a credit card if you don’t have a credit history.
Actually, scratch that. It’s not that hard to get a credit card. It’s just hard to get a good one.
If you’re in college, chances are you’ve already gotten credit card offers in the mail, but read the fine print carefully. Chances are, the interest rates those cards are offering are crazy high, and they probably have relatively high limits as well. That’s because those companies are banking, quite literally, on you spending more than you can pay off and forking over hundreds or thousands of dollars in interest payments over time.

Don’t do that. For oh, so many reasons. That’s the kind of behavior that trashes your credit score instead of building it, and you end up in debt for months or years to come.

There’s a better way. Six better ways, to be specific.

Today, I’m reviewing six credit cards that are aimed squarely at helping people who don’t have a credit history build one without getting into trouble.

You said Discover does an account review for its secured card after 8 months. Do you know what that is in case of the US Bank Cash+ secured card? Thanks!

If I make ~$500 per biweekly paycheck, would you recommend getting a credit card solely for gas? I commute about 30 miles each time I work and average around 16-20 MPG (have an old station wagon) with a 15.9 gallon gas tank
