great unit
had to sell mine
this unit is very “four cable method” friendly
look it up if you don’t know what that is
the guitar synth is also controllable via the expression pedal and has a pretty decent sound
it also sounds mean as hell as a preamp in front of a all tube power amp... (bypassing the amps preamp)

I have had mine for many years, and am still finding out new stuff to improve sounds. But... it's all there. You really can get a lot out of it. Before you even get started however, it is super important to get the basic setup correctly, the input level, if you want to use the line/phones or whatever amp you are running it through etc. If you don't get that right, odds are you'll get rid of the GT-8 in no time again. It takes time, it's not easy, but honestly, it's great. Also, I find it best to dial in your sounds in the rehearsal room at gigging volume. Not very practical, but dialing in at bedroom volume will not make you happy when you start using it at bigger volumes.

The thing that sold me on this board is the Manual mode that you didn't go through. This allows you to play around in a single patch and add whatever other effects you want to that patch as supplementary. The 5 pedals labeled Delay, Chorus, CTL, and the expression pedal actually make sense and become much more practical in a live setting. The scenario you describe at end with the Acoustic Simulator can be done in a single patch without creating 2 or 3 patches for the same sound.

Ironically now an aftermarket desktop editor can be downloaded, and with a cheap MIDI to USB adapter, it becomes a fully desktop editor machine. New development.

you CAN attach it to a computer for editing, Via the midi in/outs and using GT 8 Fx Floorboard

You can interface with computer through MIDI and it is not that hard. I also recommend 4 cable connection if you have amp with send & receive effect loop...This is where it shines.

Hey! Few notes of my own about this vid and GT-8. I’ve been using it for over 10 years; so I noticed right away, the presets what you played ’out of the box’, was factory settings. They need hours of fiddling..

Like with guitars, factory settings are usually garbage, and so is 90% of the GT presets. Why? Because they need honing to suit the guitar pickups YOU have, the headphones/cabinet you have, etc.

To put it real short, try to dial down all the parameters that makes your sound muddy, too metallic, artificial, clipping, or just plain wrong sounding; e.g. gain, drive, treble, presence, EQ...

There is 20 places where you can affect your tone’s overall ’brightness’; some in general system, several on preamp, some on OD, some on comp, eq, subeq... so if the sound is bad, the reason can lurk in so many places, it can be depressing journey to try to finish.

Thumb rule to a crisp (but not too crisp) and lively tone, is to use high values on things like level, direct level and least amount of gain and drive. For me, I skip OD section completely on crunch based sounds, because you can get enough umph with preamp and comp. OD usually just takes the air away of the tone. Even differences with string bindings can make audible differences, that turn balanced sound ear bleedingly bad..

One last thing; if you guitar is crap, your sound will not be gold - it’s a box of silica and components, not the White Wizard!

Thanks for the vid, and cheers from Finland!

GT-8 can be hooked up to a pc with a MIDI converter

I think that sounds more analog than the gt10. IDK but i've been using mine for years and it's still good enough to survive gigs

I still use mine for Electric and it sounds great, very versatile with good cleans going into a tube amp. However does anyone have any tips for how to use it with a piezo equipped acoustic guitar so there isn’t fizz on the decay when running straight to the board?
