Her voice sounded dry and hoarse, but the technique is unmatched. In the beginning when in her lower register she was more confident and still had that gorgeous vibrato, the dryness in her throat caused her vocal cords to separate and break and lose connection, evident in the shouting rather than singing. I love this performance! She was singing those lyrics and she meant every single word! The media was putting her through so much! It was like was she saying please LEAVE ME THE FCK ALONE! and seeing Bobby and Little Bobbi dancing together in the audience was just so emotional. She looks just like "classic Whitney" aka Bodyguard era Whitney here - You really can't see all the stuff she's been through!
To listen though, I find it very hard 🥺 She sounds SO UNHEALTHY here, we can tell she has harmed herself internally even if we can't yet see evidence of it externally. She needed some peace, love and healing. I really wish she had gotten it!

It gets me everytime I watch the ending of the song of this performance when she looks to the crowd sad and does a low bow to the original floor towards the audience acknowledging that she knew deep down this wasn't her best all time live performance and thanking the fans and the crowd for still supporting and chanting for her rooting for her even though she knew it wasn't a top knotch classic whitney houston live performance that fans always expected out of her and demanded that she sound a certain way as she did back in the Bodyguard early 90s hay day when she was much on top of her game..and it also sad to see her also try her best with her voice being horse from sickness n a little bit to do combined with her bad habits that she battled even tho she knew that she forcefully gave it her fighting all emotion when it comes for her classic whitney power belting vocal for the preparation of the middle break bridge of this song where she does with much toughness as she putts on a punch power fight delivering that it's time for me to stand alone stand alone and runs with hitting the note as strong and power as she belts the word alone with the raspy horse sick voice to the crowd and the background singers u can hear let her do it alone all by herself seeing wut she was gonna b able to deliver that part of the song as it appears on the regular album and u hear after she hits it the best as she could with the horse rough vocal u can hear the audience cheer n yell praising her for facing the crowd n being brave enough to attempt the note and power belt alone so strongly as it is in recorded album version has.. plus she totally fight towards the ending knowing she had another strong vocal belt that had to b delivered when she sings the phrase And I'm not afraid to try it on my own and to make up for that loud yelling note that was truly embarrassing for her when she yelled out control earlier in the second verse.. u hear whitney get emotional and ends it like a usual traditional classic whitney slow ballad with her long high head voice falsetto the best she could with the sad low bow with the microphone thanking the audience knowing she wasn't her best and it shows here how saddened she really felt when she looks towards the floor low bow ..it's so sad just to see that this was a first time that she ended any slow ballad with a low bow looking down as she till puts on a brave face during this bad time Era of her career

I don’t know if she had emphysema this early even when she died it was mild, during this time her tongue was oddly and noticeably large blocking notes, plus she started using freebase sometime between 2000-2002 so that’s where the random rasp comes from not necessarily just cigs but it definetely worsened it, early Whitney with vocal issues would have made this work but once you are thrown into drug delusion you believe you have certain capabilities you sober mind know you don’t say what you want but sober Whitney wouldn’t have been forcing the voice like this and opted a few notes
