I've never done a lot of container gardening. Except for growing some sweet potatoes and some strawberries, I pretty much am a beginner. I thought I would share how my eggplants are doing so far.

Great video as always.. I'm in South Florida and do all container growing.. This time of year with our heat I am growing Eggplant, Okra, Sweet Potatoes, and a few Hot Pepper varieties.. The Heirloom Eggplants I am growing are Italian Prosperosa, and Iraqi Aswad.. I grow them in 20 Gal containers.. Really beautiful big fruits, delicious, and worth giving a grow.. Very large plants..

I really like the way you did your comparisons and explanations. if I ever try eggplant your thoughts are a big help as pots would probably be the way I go.👍

Yes sir the heat has been very bad. 107 is cooking for sure! Container farming is a world of its own. Once the plant gets root bound it will pretty much grow smaller fruit. Good luck and hope the heat breaks for ya soon out there. Have a great weekend!

They both look really good for being grown in containers Jim. The darker one is such a pretty color, you should do a photo shoot 😍

Hey Jim, the issues you had with the eggplants also goes for peppers and tomatoes in containers... (water, water, water). Once the temperature rising you have to stay on top of it. I would water in the morning before work and by the time I got home my plants would be drooping. The the saucer or some kind of reservoir is the best thing for container gardening. I also felt like I have to fertilize more with container plants. TFS T

They are looking good friend. Seems like the saucer helped during those hot temperatures 😊

Very good 1st attempt. You said a few of the long purple were "over ripe" but over here we would say that they're "too old". Personally, I don't go for them because the seeds in them would get harder and the flesh won't be as tender. Between the 2 types, I prefer the long purple because I feel that they're much tastier. Sorry about the hot weather but here in Malaysia, it's been very very hot for more then a week with no sign of rain.

I only grew eggplants in seven gallon fabric pots. The Black Beauty eggplants were rather small compared to store-bought eggplants and the oriental variety didn't produce that many fruit. The pot and the heat probably had something to do with it.

That is the down side of planting in containers like those black pots. They do absorb and hold the heat. Like you said you might just have to work with it and harvest earlier. You are still growing some good looking eggplants.

Containers are definitely tougher in the heat, but there's advantages to 'em too like portability.

They do look pretty good. I'm wondering if the pots being black is also effecting them. Have a great weekend. Best wishes Bob.

I have become an eggplant convert just last year, so I'm excited to start the eggplant journey . Your eggplants look good . Did they need more of time as compared to in ground of last year?

Hi Jim, i hope you dont have any unknown nephew/niece dropping in any comments today ☺☺☺Lol, anyways i must say that you did a wonderful job growing eggplants in a container, they have fruited really well especially the long purple eggplants, i had a question (as always) do you snip the growing tip of your eggplants so they branch out or are they naturally bushy because of the variety ???
