Orpheus 'Nea Genia' - Dances from Pentalofos, Thrace - HDF 2019

The Nea Genia group of the Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society presented songs and dances from the village of Pentalofos in Thraki at HDF in Atlanta, Georgia. We would like to acknowledge Ms. Eleni Filippidou, a renowned researcher of folk traditions from Thraki. Ms. Filippidou was gracious to share with us her rich resources and research and we are forever grateful for her valuable assistance.
The Nea Genia group was awarded the Platinum Award (first place) at the Senior category.
The group was also awarded the Folklore Expression award for their presentation of the Vagia custom.

We would like to also acknowledge the musicians that accompanied the Pentalofos suite: the band “Methorios” from Greece and Sarantos Kaperonis (gaeda)
