'Deeply Worrying' That Prince William Could Break 500 Years Of Church Tradition

Royal biographer Robert Hardman's new book, 'The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy', raises an interesting question.

In the book, which was serialised in the Daily Mail and is set to release on January 18th, it is speculated that Prince Charles may not take the title of 'Defender of the Faith', which has been affiliated with British sovereigns since King Henry VIII in the 1530s, due to his beliefs.

Royal biographer Tom Bower joins Talk Today to share his views on this.

For once, I completely agree with Tom Bowers. I find it worrying and agree that Justin Welby is an Utter Disgrace and has done a lot if Damage to the C of E Church, both here and around the world.

I think it's a great sign that our future king doesn't believe myths and legends are reality. I don't think it is anything to do with the archbishop, I think it far more likely that William is well educated and understands how science and reality work.

I don't think the PoW will disassociate from the Church of England. Too much is being made of an almost throwaway remark.

Charles was disgraceful at his coronation, not upholding C of E on its own.

There are a number of years to be overly concerned about this. Also consider…his own children are growing up in the church, and the heir to the throne, HRH Prince George is part of that. William may or may not choose that role…but, he may very well make a decision based, not on his personal beliefs, but on the future heir and the future of England.

Who should William be defending the faith from?

Interesting idea for the Divine right of Kings to no longer exist i.e. not having Christian recognition means the end of this monarchy. The only other alternative is to reunite with Rome or unite with Constantinople or Moscow and be recognised.
