When I first knew about volleyball rotation, I loved the idea that every player gets to play in all positions, then I found out about all this... Playing the game how you want to play but only after the ball leaves your field. This system would be ridiculous in any other team sport, imagine a goalkeeper(soccer) by center and the striker inside the goal when they start the game then they both run past each other to their correct and comfortable position.

This video is exactly what Haikyuu left me puzzled about. Occasionally you see a couple players shift positions, but you rarely see an action shot with the full court. I never understood how there are 7 players in a 6 position rotation, how a Libero is always in the back even when the rotation should put him in the front, and how a person can be middle blocker if they are rotated to the outside . Thank you!

FWIW, many teams put the libero at the left back defensively to dig the other team's outsides and put the back row outside in the middle back to allow them easier hitting lanes for back row sets.

There is a mistake in rotation 4 serve receive. Usually you let the OH2 from that rotation receive where you placed the OH1 and push the OH1 to where the libero is on position 6 and the libero to where your OPH is in position 1. You then "hide" your OPH in the bottom right side corner of the court. That way you dont get that awkward left side stack in the front row, you already have OH1 in the correct position for a pipe attack from the back row etc.

This is ALL WRONG! Libero does not and cannot serve by current rules. The MB2 comes to court and MB1 and serves and stays until they lose the point and opposite team rotates. Then Libero replaces MB1 while MB2 stays in front row!! please correct at 4:30

I just started to play volleyball in a new team bc i moved and I haven’t quite learned the rotations bc i didn’t start playing volleyball as right as i moved so i didn’t okay for a year, and right now the girls are giving me a tough time bc i dont know the rotations quite Well so here i am learning them so that i can play better with the team

Why should the libero be positioned at zone 6 when he is behind the block. Hardest expected hit is on position 5, that why you have to put your libero there. Also this leaves space for outsidehitter to hit from behind in the middle.

When you have the serve you can move to your planned positions and do not have to switch after the ball goes over the net nowadays. However you have to switch after recieving the ball when recieving the serve.
