Assassin's Creed Unity is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released in November 2014 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and in December 2020 for Stadia.[1] It is the eighth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and the successor to 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It also has ties to Assassin's Creed Rogue, which was released for the previous generation consoles on the same day as Unity.

The plot is set in a fictional history of real world events and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and features an unnamed and unseen protagonist, who joins the Assassins as an initiate to help them locate the corpse of an 18th century Sage before Abstergo (the modern-day incarnation of the Templars). The main story is set in Paris during the French Revolution and follows Assassin Arno Victor Dorian and his efforts to expose the true powers behind the Revolution. The game retains the series' third-person open world exploration as well as introducing a revamped combat, parkour and stealth system. The game also introduces cooperative multiplayer to the Assassin's Creed series, letting up to four players engage in narrative-driven missions and explore the open world map.

Assassin's Creed Unity received mixed reviews upon release. It was praised for its visuals, customization options, setting, and characterization. Critics were more polarized on its narrative, mission design, multiplayer-oriented format, and gameplay, with the latter in particular complimented for its improvements, but criticized for a lack of innovation and for feeling unrefined. The game was also widely panned for its numerous graphical issues and bugs, prompting Ubisoft to issue an apology and offer compensation. In the years since Unity's release, after most of the technical issues were resolved, the game has undergone positive critical re-evaluations, and is retrospectively considered to be an underrated and under-appreciated title in the Assassin's Creed series. The game was also a favorable commercial success, selling over 10 million copies worldwide, and saw a resurgence in sales in the early 2020s.

Assassin's Creed Unity was followed in October 2015 by Assassin's Creed Syndicate, which continues the modern-day narrative, but has its main plot set in Victorian era London.

Assassin's Creed Unity is an action-adventure[3] stealth game set in an open world environment. The game's combat system was meant to be rebuilt, with fencing being used as an inspiration for the new system. In addition to returning weapons from previous games, Assassin's Creed Unity introduces the Phantom Blade. The Phantom Blade uses the mechanics of a crossbow to fire a silent projectile at a great distance, while still serving the same role as the Hidden Blade in previous Assassin's Creed games.[4] Navigation for the game was also overhauled: new "Free-run up" and "Free-run down" commands were added to make it easier for the player to scale buildings in either direction.

Unity is actually one of my favorite AC games. It's unfortunate that it just gets remembered as the broken AC game. Getting past the bugs it had on release, it was the peak of the series in my opinion. It had a large emphasis on stealth, combat had some issues yet still felt like it was refined like it was a step up from the combat before it, it even had armor with its own stats without over doing it as they do now. I was fortunate enough to not run into many problems so maybe that why i enjoyed it more. More should go and give it another try.

Am I the only person on earth who had absolutely no fucking bugs while playing this like a year after release? Still one of my favorite AC games to this day.

I'll die on the "Unity is the purest AC game" hill. It was ahead of its time. If they hadn't botched the release then it would have charted the course for the series and we wouldn't have veered off into the weeds with the modern trilogy. Its a real shame.

I love how it's called unity as in unification and being together, yet people either love it or hate it very few in between

The fact unitys graphics look like they came out in 2021 is a huge deal. So underrated.

Arno was the closest thing we’ve had to Ezio in a long time, I loved the parkour, stealth, and combat as well. It still felt like a true AC game unlike what we have now

I started playing AC Unity during the COVID lockdown last year. Man, I think it's safe to say this game is AC in its purest form.

Never had a problem with this game. The parkour was incredible, the story was amazing, the customization was also amazing, the combat was good, overall an amazing game.

I played Unity on a Xbox One X 1 year ago and never had one bug that break the game. I love this game. The parkour, the visuals, the city, the future missions and everything is great. I just wish more poeple could just enjoy Unity for what it is.

I feel like AC Unity is the turning point for the company. Everything about the way they treat their game and customers changed radically after Unity. If Unity had done well, Ubisoft’s direction wouldn’t be where we are now.

I’m not gonna lie, this game was so spectacular. But what struck me the most was the attention to detail. There were many times where I didn’t even need the map because the road layouts were so well done that I knew them from living in Paris, or the principal districts in the game actually felt familiar. It was astounding

I'd have given my right arm for a Unity sequel that saw Arno seek out Old Man Connor for helping hunt down Shay. I know it wouldn't have worked for timeline-related reasons, what with Shay already getting on a bit when Arno was just a kid, but a crossover event that brought together all of those characters/eras would have been insane.

The parkour, customization, the setting, graphics and stealth. Plus it was multiplayer?? This was so close to being what we all wanted the ACs to be before it and it was so close. I want them to give it another shot w another REAL AC game.

Honestly, this seven year old game has one of the best graphics I have ever seen and it's holding up until this day very well..

To be fair, the mouth sync and overall expressiveness of characters was really good in Unity. For me way better than Valhalla's or any other AC game for that matter.

I downloaded and played this game without ever knowing a thing about its reputation; i had only played ac ii and brotherhood before, and was really unsure about not playing Ezio anymore... But i loved this game so, so much. Arno is a complicated character, but i do like him and get his motivations, and the set??? Holy moly it is MAGICAL to walk through Revolutionary France and actually be part of the history! I didn't even realize there were bugs, didn't even realize the story wasn't the best until i finished it. It was so, so good, i played it nonstop for a whole week and didn't get bored a single moment. Sometimes it is better to go into something with a completely open mind.

I played Unity last year and it broke my heart to think that it could have been the start of another Trilogy

I absolutely loved AC Unity. I first played it a few years ago and straight-out fell for it. I faced almost no bugs while playing the game and the gameplay was just awesome.

I still have Assassin's Creed: Unity in my game folder to this day! And although I have finished both the main story and the Dead Kings DLC long ago. I still play the free roam parkour. It's just so damn addicting and underappreciated too! If only more people will be patient and enjoy this underrated quality game in the franchise.
