I think any game with RNG events would automatically be in the top 10 with 100s of them tied for those positions.

Speedrunning is a terrifying prospect. People ruin their lives over it and never truly feel satisfied. There are people who have hurt themselves over failing times, so much so that their bodies can't keep up with the healing (both mentally and physically). The ones who don't butcher their bodies in the process of becoming a speedrunner tend to fare far better, but one small slip up can absolutely break a person. For instance, there was a Super Mario Bros (NES) speedrunner who participated in a team race in one of the GDQ events who botched one small thing, and it caused him to repeatedly make mistakes as he kept panicking. It was his last speedrun before retiring, and these mistakes pushed him so much that he was on the verge of tears on a live stream. Dude held out and was able to walk away when his turn ended, but he was a broken man when he finally got to walk off. Poor guy didn't deserve that.

I'm content going through games as fast as I can manage. I won't try to push for crazy glitches, or ridiculous tricks that take practice. Hell, I can't even beat Super Metroid in less than five hours for the best ending, let alone dream of doing something like beating it in <20 minutes like some runners. I'll gladly play the role of the tortoise in the race against the hare.

If you ever did a top 20 most difficult videogames to speedrun 100% (instead of any%), I would recommend putting the World's Hardest Game 3 in there. The speedrun world record is about 40 minutes, but second place is over an hour. It's so tedious because you have to keep moving constantly, and because it never lets up, even the best speedrunners will get tilted in the middle of it.

Ocarina of Time gets the top spot without even a mention of Dampe, the reason the 100% run is a nightmare.

What criteria did you even use here?
Hardest because of games' difficulty even in casual gameplay? Hardest because of highly precise speedrun tricks required to get close a WR time? Or, hardest because of the sheer amount of competition and/or highly optimized WR speedrun route (i.e. SMB1)?
