The Captain's Log, also known as an interstitial journal, is a productivity technique I use almost everyday. The simple act of writing down what we're doing helps us to figure out where our time goes, find out why we're procrastinating, and helps keep us on task.

Beyond the productivity and organizational benefits of writing down one's tasks (whether via James's captain's log or a simple to-do list) getting all this information on paper frees your headspace and immediately brings down the anxiety brought on by busy schedules. This video was a great reminder!

I enjoy this metaphor because it makes ordinary computer work feel more fun. It might be another day spent sitting at a desk, but I can imagine it as leading a ship into unknown waters.

I like this idea. I'm gonna try it.

I've been doing this for the past couple of months on my own before I saw your video. They really are helpful! I have not tried the "next" step, though, which sounds really useful. I've even found that often times a log shows I am actually getting *more* work done than I thought.
