That's awesome. I feel like if you do a negative slow, you can just tell that it's doing something for you, it's super challenging. A press or a pull isn't always the hardest thing in the world. Unless you're just really out of shape and you can't do a pull-up for a dip for a chest press very well to begin with. It's cool that they're still learning so much about the body.

What research? I’m assuming you are referring to eccentric overload training. The eccentric on a regular set causes almost no growth because it’s very easy so you don’t need to recruit many motor units. This is why slower eccentrics don’t cause more muscle growth in studies.

No. Concentric is more important. It recruits more muscle fibres

I think the best way to approach this would be as Jay mentioned a 10 second negative but also doing the concentric phase slow. The muscle fibers involved in lifting the weight will hit failure first and then after that you can keep going by doing negatives only until those also hit failure.

mechanical tension on what sarcomeres? governed by what motor units? growth sensitive? negative phase = low or medium treshold motor unit recruitment = no relevant growth

What's meant by overloaded? Does that mean the eccentric load needs to be heavier than the concentric load, or just go slower on the eccentric?

"Overloading the negative phase". You cant overload the neg using normal gym equipment. It needs to be supramaximal loads. Sorry Jay, you lowering the weight like that does nothing but increase fatigue. Only the concentric can fire the largest motor units in normal situations. Just stop this slow mo nonsense. You and drew baye.

Isnt loading the muscle while it's in a deep stretch ideal for hypertrophy? Shouldn't you be going deeper with these ez bar curls?
