Hi everyone! Let me know what you think about the 2020 version of Twinmotion in the comments below! (Keep it civil please, I know everyone has their own favorite rendering programs :) )

Really hope they buck the trend and offer version purchase and not a purely subscription one. When you own software you use it for non paid practice far more and learn more.

Twinmotion currently has the following big problems.
1) Z fighting - after reupdating the model from Sketchup. Upon primary import and applying materials in Twinmotion. but making changes in Sketchup and reupdating the model all hell is loose with z-fighting.
2) No collision.- making 3dmodel follow thru a proper path via steps etc. Has no proper collision simulation. they skip step heights.
3) Plants - aren't as good enough compared to Lumion. The landscape assets are better in lumion. Im a landscape architect and believe me after a survey of over 40people. Twinmotion always better for building design rather than landscape design related. Yes they have a good feature called the paint brush for grass etc. But every time you reupdate the model the painted stuff vanishes. So you need to do it again. Or u need to separate the files and create different sketchup files etc. Its just not helping In procedural generation of the project.
4) MATERIALS - The extracted materials just keep adding over and above themselves and each time Twinmotion crashes and restarts. It removes the entire folder and remakes it and adds -0 or -1 to the existing Sketchup jpegs materials you use. Its such a god daam pain keeping the materials in check so you can reimport the model safely without the z-fighting issue/without adding double images and making the folder file size bigger. each image is 8k/4k/2k doubles. Workaround is before reupdating the model copy the folder elsewhere as a backup and after reupdate and it asks for the lost/missing materials copy it back to the folder and done.
5) CREATING NORMALS - I use Materialize (free) for creating my normal maps. When the materials folder keep flushing down after reimport so do they remove the normals. BEWARE donot link ur normal map main folder. Twinmotion might just delete and remove them. U need to do and download that shit all over again.
Those are some of the above. Some more there which I cannot get on the top of my mind.

Get these things fixed and maybe it would be worth useable.

I've been working in Twinmotion almost everyday for the past few months. My biggest issue is the file sizes and crashes, projects I work on are Commercial/Industrial. For instance one of them is a production plant for an automotive corporation. One of the main things that I was supposed to focus on in the plant is the pallet warehouse section. I had to construct all of the pieces of the racking in Revit. When I bring that over to Twinmotion my file sizes explode to 30 - 60gb. I get crash after crash when trying to make video clips with custom object paths (Automated Pallets) in Twinmotion. I have a high end system with a i9-9940, 128gb ram and 2080ti, so it's not that my system can't handle it. It seems that the way Twinmotion encodes or reads data is what's causing it. Does anyone know if they have any plans of working on that aspect so TM will eventually be a viable program for large scale Commercial/Industrial projects with repetitive instances or copies. Right now it seems like it works fine if you want to use it on a house or a small commercial building with wide open floor plans but as soon as things start getting "cluttered" the program bogs down significantly.

Can we expect real time Ray Tracing? In the white car scene, the reflections are pretty good, really looks like it's ray tracing.

(BTW I DO A BUNCH OF RENDERS) and they really fixed the lighting, love it, also do you think it will be free? or is that a one time thing?

Honestly about the paying thing, Epic Games told us that the ones who downloaded Twinmotion when it was free will have the licence to keep it.

My guess is that 2020 is going to include support for realtime ray tracing via RTX! Those reflections and shadows could be a giveaway.

I normally use Unreal and Enscape. I've been testing Twinmotion and Lumion for a few days, and TM is the clear winner:

TM is far, far more likely to have realtime raytracing support before Lumion. I won't be using any software that doesn't have it, plain and simple.

The fact that you can't simply add roughness and metallic maps in Lumion materials is mind-numbing. (you have to add them into an alpha channel of a tga/png/tif). If there's a way to easily drag them into a material, let me know!

Lumion has zero interactive features.
TM's future integration with Unreal (rather, the addition of interactive elements within TM) is fantastic.
Lumion doesn't support realtime VR experiences. In this day and age, that's simply unforgivable. lol.
The flickering in Lumion animations - particularly on interior scenes - is well known and documented. Even their promo reels show it.

I'll keep testing both anyway!

So if I have the free version of 2019 I will have to pay to upgrade right?

Do you actually see a lighting upgrade? Fidelity and lighting wise I don't see a difference.

Hello,

I intend to make a big pc config for interior arcictectural modeling on sketchup with vray rendering,

the projects weigh about between 2 and 4 GB,

what configuration do you recommend?

which components should be favored?

processor ? intel or AMD ? which ?

ram ? what brand ? how many GO?

standard or pro graphics card ? which ?

And then no free twinmotion...back to vray again...

If it’s not free why not use Unreal for architecture for free? It already has real time ray tracing so technically better. would go against Epics principals.

Twinmotion rendering look less realistic that lumion

Will this be free as the current cersion is or is there going to be a different setup. They stated it would be free forever but i sense thats not the case as the world is money mad and nothing is for free haha

R.I.P lumion.. TM wil include real Xfrog plantation, ANIMA crowd simulation from AXYZ and QUIXEL MEGASCANS... you did good lumion but its time to pack it and go. or you can be a childs play for othersLOL
