One Mile Deep (Official Lyric Video) - November South

Ridin’ two blind horses as they carry me to hell
There’s a burnin’ in my eyes
And brimstones all that I can smell
I felt the mountain crumble as the walls began to fall
I came to make a livin’ but now I’m underneath it all

I can hear angels callin’
But it feels like the devil has my hand
Come tomorrow I’ll be right here in this place
Without a sound
Where no light shines
Way down in the mine

Like others done before me
I left my home in Tennessee
To work a Kentucky coal mine in 1923
The ten of us were one mile deep
When the beams began to crack
We all went down in a coal mine
Though we never made it back

I can hear angels callin’
But it feels like the devil has my hand
And come tomorrow I’ll be right here in this place
Without a sound
Where no light shines
Way down in the mine

Well don’t you cry now darlin’ Everything’s gonna be alright
There’s angels here to take me now and I know One day we’ll meet on high
‘Cause I see the light
Way down in the mine

Thank God there's still real country music like this instead of all the new pop country I keep hearing

My great grandfather died in a mine explosion in Colorado. They just sealed it up and placed a memorial atop it. It takes a real man to go down in those mines every day. Respect!

Beautifully song and loved every word. I worked thirty years in the mines of the silver valley in northern Idaho. Many times i didn't think i would make through the shift because rock bursts. God was my 9 only hope to make home to my family every night. With the chaos of being in many rock bursts and seeing things i didn't think possible God saw me through. I shed a tear while listening to your song because I've lost so many friends underground. Thank you for this song it meant millions to me, God bless.

I know this song is about those lost in the mines.. but dealing with depression, anxiety and dark thougts. Way down in the mine sounds to me like "way down in the mind" as in the lowest point. A mile deep into depression. This is constantly playing either out loud or in my mind. Even now, smoking with tears in my eyes. The song speaks to me.

I worked in mining, now I detail cars, I have my own business, , , , my son now does underground mining (operates drilling rigs).
When I found you on tik tok, and heard this song, it brought back the memory of the 33 miners who were trapped underground for a long time, in the San José mine in Chile.
Much respect for what you do and the music you create and perform.
Greetings from Chile..

Heard this on tiktok.. just have to say thanks. My husband is a coal miner and I’m always afraid for him. I can’t imagine how women felt back in the 1900’s sending their men off everyday for what could be the last time.
