Nice to see you back!
Regarding black and silver number plates: Initially, in 2015 the DVLA said that that vehicles manufactured more than 40 years ago (Historic) were eligible to display the traditional black and silver number plates.
Then they realised what they had done and changed it so that from the 1st January 2021 and going forward, only those vehicles with a construction date prior to 1 January 1980 will continue to be able to legally display black and silver number plates. So with a 'W' 1980 registration date/plate you are skating on thin ice, depending on when the bike was constructed.

Can't wait to see you getting them ready and having them in situ. Talk about a blast from the past☺

Good morning Guy, great to see you are back making videos, perfect timing to stop and have a cuppa on a Sunday morning 🙂🍵, I think you may have just missed out on being technically allowed the black and silver plate, it needs to be first registered before 1st Jan 1980 AND historic registered, it used to be '73 so now my CB750 is getting one to replace the yellow tea tray🙂

Good work.
Did many miles on the back of my mates CM200 Custom back in 1981. Everyone laughed at that little bike, but it was bomb proof, used no fuel, and was actually pretty comfortable.
The fairing and panniers look very similar to what I had on my 400/4. Whatever happened to Rickman? Be a good story.
Nice one.
Safe, happy travels 👍

I had a 1980 cm400t custom -- talk about unstoppable. Really, the brakes worked poorly. Bought it for $50 in 1986 and sold it for $850 in 1989. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.

Looks great Guy. Well maybe a topbox to finish it off. Old school buying stuff making it fit brilliant that's how we had to do it. All too easy nowadays. 👍👍👍

Back in seventies I had the older models which had removable lids & the rear brace bars went upwards to the bolt holding the rack to to frame not forward to the footrests .

Any historic vehicle pre 01/01/1980 can display and black and silver plate. Anything after 01/01/1980 black and yellow plates regardless of historic classification.

If you hold the grinder at an angle it will cut the radius a lot easier.

I met you at the NEC a few years ago and we talked about the lack of aftermarket touring fairings for the plethora of "retro" bikes on sale now! Would you consider getting replica Rickman products made for Royal Enfields, Triumphs, and all the other bikes out there that could then be used all year round again? That Benly looks PUCKER! When I first looked into bikes, this was one of my choices (back in the 1970's!) I eventually bought an old XS650 US import, instead!
I would happily relocate BACK to the Cambridge area if I could get digs (flippin' expensive to live anywhere near that part of the world!) and a job like that!
