Great breakdown! For me, I'm really happy with my g9ii. As cool as the GH7 features are (they really are!) I think for my needs the g9ii is more than enough. That said, if I was still doing wedding films full time and client work, I'd be buying like 3 GH7's to run my business with exclusively. Ridiculous spec for the price! Long live Micro four thirds ☺️📷

I took my G9M2 to India for two weeks last week. The temperature went up to 52.8 degrees C according to the news. I took video both with my iPhone13 promax. iPhone stopped recording when G9M2 recorded as much as I needed. I think the cooling fan is not necessary for Panasonic bodies. If it wasn’t for the auto focus I would have took my GH6 though. Still I think it is better having a fan even if you don’t use it. Thanks for the great video.

I am using G9 M2 for my wildlife videos here in India - am satisfied with the performance, i was in a confusion whether to replace my G9 M2 with GH7 but after seeing this video i think i need not to change the camera 😊
thanks for the video

i dont think most people who bought the G9II are gonna have buyer's remorse.. it seems perfectly fine for most users.. especially with the updated autofocus

The gh7 vs v9ii remimds me of gh5 vs g9 in a way back then.

The GH7 has a number of features over the G9-II: CFExpress, RAW-internal, the streaming functions from the GH5-II, the tilt/flip-screen, the fan, the 32bit sound option, Arri-Log.
I don't need this for what I'm doing, so I can easily stay with the G9-II. What I miss a little bit is the CFExpress, the screen and the C1-C4 I used on the GH6 a lot. This one more C-setting directly on the wheel is worth a lot for me. But overall the G9-II is better for me because of the weight and size advantage.

I received my g9 ii on June 1 and then the gh7 was announced haha. I was ready to die of regret and then when I saw what the gh7 actually is, the g9 ii is much more in line with what I want. Extremely small and compact and has pretty much every feature the gh7 has and all of the features that I wanted. For me, the g9 ii is the proper successor to the gh5.

I have a G9 and a G90. I find I use the G90 more often for what I do because of the smaller size and weight which I prefer for hiking, cycling, travel. So I'm holding out for next generation of G80/G90 camera with the improved autofocus rather than going for either G9ii or GH7. 🙂

As a indie filmmaker who will mostly use 4k 24p, my G9II will do the job. I traded in my Gh6 for $1, 000 and got the extra $500 trade in from Lumix to buy the G9II. No remorse here. If they offer that $500 again I would think about the GH7, but the G9II does the job.

What's funny is that I decided on the G9 II a couple months ago after a few of your videos about it and I don't have buyers remorse. The G9II serves a different purpose than the GH series. It sits in my tool bag as my stills and run and gun video camera, where as the GH6 is the principal video camera for me (hopefully to be replaced with a GH7).

I am so grateful for your video content. I bought the G9II after watching your review, and I am so glad I did. I already own the GH5 and have used Lumix for my ranch/farm video work since the GH3. I only had to think about where 99% of my video work ends up to seal the deal for the G9II. My videos end up on online real estate websites and a link to the hosted video is sent to prospective buyers who ask for information. My videos aren’t playing at Regal Cinemas. 1080p is perfectly acceptable for most of what I do but I find myself shooting in 4K 30p most of the time just because I can. I get a kick out of the “real estate videos” that sellers pay $20K for that include actors, the shot of the Ferrari going up the drive, etc. Those are really nice videos for luxury properties but almost all of them fail to do the one thing prospective buyers want the video to do: provide information that will help them determine whether or not the prospect wants to view the property or not. Thanks again for your great content!

Thanks for breaking it down, and for letting me understand that the G9 II has everything I would ever need!

Thanks. This comparison is what i was looking for. From G9, i moved to S5, 2 years back. As a traveller, I soon realised that S5 doesnt like too much movement due to its big sensor. Stabilisation wasn't as good as i had in my G9. But G9 gave me a lot of AF issues and ruined many shots so was avoiding using it.
I am moving to G9ii now.
Thanks for the review.

I own a G9II and GH6. It’s nice to have a dedicated photo-centric camera like the G9II and leave the video-centric camera at home. I plan to trade up my GH6 for a GH7 in the coming months

Given the choice, and for a similar price, I'd pick the GH7. However...
1) When I had my GH6, I used ProPres less than 1% of the time, and I never really needed. Davinci Resolve does not accept ProRes RAW.
2) The screen is better, but not a deal breaker.
3) The fan is good to have, but my G9ii has never overheated for me
4) I am unlikely to buy another XLR interface -I rarely use the one I have
5) I paid £1440 for the G9ii new, and the GH7 is £2000. That's 39% more money.

Watched this video like 3 times lol I love my g9ii, looking to replace my gh6 so I had preordered the gh7. Decided it was too much camera for how I use mft and so I cancelled my preorder and just ordered a used g9ii from MPB. I’m happy with my choice. Thanks for this video man!

I was dying to buy the G9-II but I SWORE a couple of years ago to never, EVER buy any future camera that does not have a cooling fan. In other words, no fan no buy....no matter how many features it has. I'm damn GLAD that I waited for the GH7. I'm selling my GH6 and I have already ordered the GH7. The temptation for the G9-II was strong but I feel 100% justified in waiting. I would have had to sell two cameras instead of one.

Back in the days I got the GX8 and later the GH5. THERE the smaller GX8 was way worse in shoothing quality.
Amazing that the G9II is so good now in comparison to the GH7. I kinda left MFT and GH5 because of the Focus. Went to sony A7c. Now the G9II at a good price could re-live my MFT lens usage - especially for quick vlogs and there having a great stab and focus. thanks for your video and greets from Austria
