Heard this on the radio oh, so, long ago and had forgotten about until yesterday.  Someone played on the radio again after all these years.  I loved and still love this song.  I spent about an hour trying to find out who sang it and the name of the song.

Outstanding song, but, it lacks a refrain in the middle. If they had put the uptempo ending in the middle, and still kept the ending, that upgrades the song tremendously.

You MUST have a refrain in a popular song. The biggest omission in that respect in the history of popular music is Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas, ” which just repeats the same verse. Bing Crosby sings two verses, a mixed chorus with some whistling at the end closes it out, but there is NO refrain, it is just one melodic idea, throughout. Berlin was obviously in a hurry to get to the publisher with his original sketch for the song.

I added a refrain to White Christmas, to complete the song. The lyrics go like

Sometimes they come after Thanksgiving,
And sometimes they come early in the fall.
On the day that arrive the first snowflakes,
Kids all know that Santa soon will

Sacrilege to some, but this is the best McCartney-written “rock” song McCartney EVER recorded—INCLUDING his Beatles career.
