When watching your one shot video (part two) at the timestamp 1: 02: 00, the question was about ages and the chapter we are following is linear equation in two variable, but the variable u took for father was F, which makes it the 3rd variable for the equation the way it would have been solved is----

Let the present age of father = x
Let the sum of the ages of children (a + b) = y

now atq,

x = 2y -- i

after 20 years,

x + 20 = y + 40 ( as a + b = 20 + 20 )
x - y = 20 -- ii

putting equation i in equation ii,

2y - y = 20
y = 20

Present age of father = x = 2y
x = 2(20)
x = 40

Therefore, the present age of the father is 40.
