NASA’s Orion spacecraft launched successfully atop a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket Dec. 5 at 7:05 a.m. EST from Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Orion’s Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1), is the first flight test for NASA’s new deep space capsule and is a critical step on NASA's journey to Mars. The 4.5 hour flight is scheduled to conclude with the splashdown of Orion in the Pacific Ocean.

This is an amazing achievement, even though I hear people saying, "it's already been done before."  Well, okay, yeah, it has, but now it has been done by a new generation of engineers on a tighter budget with an entirely different style of technology. . .with 1/3rd the number of employees involved as the Apollo launches.
Space travel is amazing by all counts and in all periods of time, but making space travel more cost-effective is what will really push humanity forward.

I love how it goes from loud, to dead silent as the craft enters space.

Awesome video! Watching as it left the atmosphere and no longer being able to see fire from the engines was really cool.

EPIC. I am 18 and I watched shuttle launches when I was young. This was an awesome launch but I still miss the Shuttle.
