Dual Member Proportional was created in 2013 by University of Alberta student who says "It would allow rural areas to be completely included in the reform and it would provide provincewide proportionality. British Columbians would have a very similar voting experience when they go to the polls as they do now but would know their vote would count."

And candidates are competing not only to have the most votes locally but also to have the highest vote share among the other candidates from their party across the province.
