I just attended All Souls' Mass at Newman Parish, Melbourne and heard Dies Irae in Latin for the first time. Glory be to God, who will come to judge the living and the dead whose reign will last forever. Amen

When I was in 8th grade, we would sing for the parish's funeral Masses. We sang this hymn. As I listened, I sang along. I still remembered the Latin to this day. I am 77 years old now.

I grew up in the 50’s attending Catholic School and went to Mass every and sang the Gregorian chants in Latin. We didn’t go to Mass on Saturdays except when we made the First Saturday’s and in the upper grades I sang in the special girl’s choir where we sang for funerals. I really loved the calm relaxing beauty that soothed your soul from those times. I was very upset when they changed the Mass but they didn’t care what we liked. Now the Catholic Church has really lost the way. It is so wonderful to hear the Sisters singing these beautiful Latin hymns.

Dear sisters in Christ, it is impossible for me to express the emotions that I feel when I listen to your holy songs, your angelic purity and your beautiful voices are an extension of the beauty of God, every time I hear your songs I feel like crying and many times I do it, not because I am sad, but because they help me to feel the eternal love of God and the affection of our holy mother Mary. Thank you for sharing so much beauty in these times of evil and sadness.

One of my most vivid memories as a child just started school is of the Dominican nuns singing in the chapel. Such purity and transcendence. When guitar masses came in, they seemed so thin and - pedestrian.
