The members of sabbath were from a gritty, economically depressed industrial city in England. They did not feel in touch with the whole summer of love hippie, peace and love movement of the 60’s. They decided to make “scary” music instead. I for one am glad they went their own way.

Just thought I'd point out that your guy's thumbnail is the cover art for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Sweet Leaf is from Master of Reality, one of the first albums I ever owned. Used to blast this song all the time back in the day, before I even knew what the 'leaf' was, lol

Yeah this track is an absolute classic, it's considered the first ever stoner metal song and is basically credited with starting the entire stoner metal/rock sub-genre. If you guys haven't checked it out already, ya'll need to hear either Hand Of Doom or Snowblind. Both are killer tracks and absolute classics as well. Keep it up ya'll

That cough in the beginning was an actual bong rip that they recorded. Love it.

One of my most favorite drum parts is Bill beating those drums like they owe him money. They get me every single time!!

Bill Ward on Drums and Geezer Butler on Bass are on of the most underrated rhythm sections in Rock....both are effin' monsters and are simply overlooked by many because of Ozzy's iconic vocals and Iomi's unique sound. Sabbath is the Godfather of Metal.

Tony Iommi didn't invent distortion, or heavy riffs, but was the pioneer of heavy metal. His riffs came to define heavy metal. He injured his fingers in an industrial accident, and had plastic finger tips made for his left hand. Because of this, he down-tuned the guitar so the strings would be easier to play. It also made riffs that deeper and darker sounding, which was perfect for their sound.

"THEY HAVE LEGENDARY RIFFS"
Yessir BH6, they did indeed. SO legendary in fact, that the opening Riff to this tune got swiped by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to use at the end of "Give It Away". Good stuff. If you're going to steal Steal good stuff.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Sabbath play live a few times. Watching Tony Iommi play these iconic riffs is one of the best things I've ever seen
Oh and suggestion- Ozzy - Killer of Giants

According to Geezer Butler (Bass Player) he was looking at a pack of cigarettes and the pack said 'The Sweetest of Leaf". Thats how the song came ot be. Everyone says weed but that is according to Black Sabbath's Bass Player

Black Sabbath is the first metal band. Oddly enough it was due to an accident that he down tuned his guitar. He worked in a factory and had the tips of 2 of his fingers on his fret hand chopped off. He made prosthetic fingertips and tuned his guitar differently to make playing easier and in the process created heavy metal.

The album that this came from, Master of Reality, left me completely awestruck, summer between 8th and 9th grade, after my older brother brought it home when he came back from Navy boot camp. It sounded so ponderous and heavy that I could feel it in my bones, it was simply nothing at all like the am radio pop music that was playing all around me that summer. I still throw the album on at least once a year, and just let the experience wash over me all over again.

I think a part of Black Sabbaths distinct sound, as well as metal in general, comes from the heavy use of power chords and palm muting.
