In Chapter 5 of Black Myth: Wukong, we meet Bull King, one of Wukong’s old comrade/friend, and it's clear he’s one of the unluckiest characters, with nearly every decision he’s made leading to misfortune. Here’s why…

Bull King's bad luck began when he joined Wukong in a failed rebellion against Heaven, leading to his punishment. His wife, Princess Iron Fan, was forced to bear Red Boy, and later, his son was taken by Guanyin. His second mistake was opposing Wukong and the Celestial Court, which led to his fox wife, Princess Fair Fox, being killed by Bajie. Despite Wukong's advice to submit to Heaven, Bull King refused and was defeated by Nezha. He eventually submitted to Heaven and Buddhism, but his string of bad luck didn't end there…

In Black Myth: Wukong, Bull King is forced to fight Wukong once again, this time as part of Heaven’s plan. He joins in the fight with the rest of the Yaoguia kings and Wukong is eventually defeated. Wukong dies in Bull King’s arms, telling him that submitting to Heaven didn’t grant the freedom either of them sought, and Bull King had once again made the wrong decision. After Wukong’s death, Bull King is once again tasked with guarding Wukong’s body relic, further proving that he will always be a pawn of Heaven, even in enlightenment. He returns home, broken and weakened, mourning the loss of his old friend, a shadow of his former self. His misfortune never seems to end.

You forgot to say that bull king also witnessed his son/stepson take his own life... no father or mother deserves that...

This is the moment where most of the players (I'm hypothesing) thought "the celestial court must pay for their deeds". We started to think like Wukong himself.

Wukong actually tried to rescue him during the JTW, a lot of players didn't understand thinking that wukong was the one who betrayed him but actually the Bull king was stupid. Wukong knew that the celestial court was after the bull king and attempted to indirectly prompt him to back down this time because he had known what kind of magnitude of forces was heading there. In the end, he could have successfully avoided the consequences of his actions if he had understood what his sworn brother meant and followed the advice.

Also even worse red boy was defeated by Wukong and sent to Guan Yin as a Buddhist monk to repent for his actions but ultimately this was a hostage situation

I just realized that's who chi chi and the ox king are based off in DragonBall. Goku even helps them put out a mountain that's on fire using a magical fan

“He got decapitated—but survived.”
Is basically the same as
“Did you die?”
“Sadly yes… but I lived!”

A Bull this unhappy must yearn for nothingness in his passing if it means he escapes a world ruled by the Celestial Courts iron grip.

I understand tragedy is a common theme in the story but it would be nice to see the celestial court get its comeuppance.

The line from wukong as the scene starts, “every step you take is a mistake” something to that affect

It’s not really unlucky, it’s just bad choices. He sucks at making decisions. In ch.5 end cutscene, wukong’s words are actually trying to guide him but he doesn’t listen and the only time he makes the right decision: when wukong dies, he tells the bull king to not use his relics (because wukong planned the destined one to go get them) and bull king actually listens.

i wish to read the entire journey to the west but as far as i know from the game the Celestial Court really made almost everyone miserable and it’s just not the way to go

The over all story of Wukong is so tragic and sad ... the fact he was not able to do anything to change things he wanted and only thing he wanted was absolute freedom and to live with his mankind ... he didnt want to be slave to the gods so first he tried to fight them then after it failed he tried to join the gods but that just felt bad for him because they forced him to do lot of stuff against his will lot of his friends and things he loved just disapeared

Idk why this hit deep. Moral of the story, commitment. Stop changing shit up, switching sides, consider a stance carefully and stand firm until sure of otherwise and not just on trying something else. I think this has helped me more than I thought lol

Every single character, except the six pairs of bosses and the damn keeper, that were from flaming mountain, left a hole in my heart.

He's so skinny and old. This is a cool detail. Most games that show you a character like this, show him looking pretty much like how he looked like in the past.

He was him. He was the other great sage equal to heaven next to the monkey. Their call signs back in their demon king days were both Geat Sage Equal to Heaven, but with different "equal". The Bull's sheet might and skill were unreal, he held his own in combat easily against Bajie and Wukong, it took Nezha plus Liguang plus an army plus Wukong and Bajie just to try and subdue him. I believe his sheer physical prowess is at least on par with Wukong, though his magical bullshit department is a bit more lacking. It saddens me to see a character like him turn into this, but then again this is how so many of the old heroes tend to wind up. Got old, made mistakes, became a fraction of what he used to be...
