Perhaps there is an art to remembering that must be taught - remembering minus the emotional carrier. Isn't it enough for the logical mind to recognize when waste has occurred and simply vow not to repeat it? Unconscious trauma memories have been drilled into our selves unwanted. If the conscious is to be considered to be of different stuff than the subconscious, perhaps we should not drill in the guilt and regret, just recall and plan ahead from the recall. Life emphasizing data rather than life emphasizing emotion might well provide us with a saner existence. No reason why we can't just dial it down a bit.
