I got the A7R2 last year and I couldn't be happier... the body is still pretty compact compared to later models and the price to capability ratio (in the used market) is unbeatable.

Two alternatives based on your budget
1 A Sony A7x (x=how much you want to spend) and Sony 40 or 50 mm G
2 A Fuji camera with a Fuji 23 or 35 mm f2 (aka “Fujicrons”) or Fuji 35 f1.4. Either an x-t4 or an x-s20 camera.

I own both Fuji (x-t5 & x-e4) and Sony (A7iv) gear. Sony has better image quality in low light and movie capabilities while Fuji has film simulations for wonderful sooc jpgs. Two other pros (highly subjective) for Fuji are 1) Fuji has a “soul” (a camera made by photographers for photographers) compared with the “soulless” Sony A7iv, 2) the interface/handling of a Fuji is much easier to me.

You and I have very similar priorities! I don't usually make strong recommendations, but my RX1R II is by far my favorite camera, and the only one I bring when I travel. It has two qualities that outweigh all other considerations for me: the delightful images I get out of the Zeiss lens, and the silent leaf shutter for street and candid photography. You already have experienced this lens, and it already sounds like you're most attracted to this camera. I think you already have your answer, and you shouldn't settle for options that you feel are less exciting - even if you can't buy this camera in time for your trip.
For what it's worth: I hoped my new A7C II would replace all my other cameras. It pairs so nicely with the Samyang 35mm f/2.8! But even though it has IBIS, an excellent battery, amazing autofocus, and more attractive JPEG colors... None of it makes me want to part with the Zeiss lens on my RX1R II. I have yet to find a compact FF lens I prefer, and I have tried a lot.

the fe 40mm 2.5 is a awesome lens together with a a7c or a7cII or for your high megapixel a7cr....i use this lens with a a7rIII and it is all i need....at 2.5 it is sharp in the corners better then the samyang 1.8 lenses

I’ve wanted the Fuji X100V. Was on the waiting list for a year when they discontinued manufacturing the body. Preordered the X100VI and after 2.5 month canceled the order. I’m not willing to pay a premium for the X100V or VI. I’m not going to wait a year for the VI to be delivered.

The RX1R Mii had so many things right for me. The problem is I’m not willing to pay $2500-3000 for a nine year old camera. Where does that leave me? Bought a Sony A7C for $900 and a 35/2.8 for $250. Small and lightweight. Less than the fujis I wanted. I look forward to trying full frame for the 1st time. Also want to experience Sony autofocus.

I have the Samyang /Rokinon 45 1.8 used on a A7R4 and A7R5 and while It's truly fantastic stopped down to f4 or 5.6 it's a wee bit soft wide open, especially in the corners. Personally, if I had to glue only one lens on my camera, it would be the absolutely stellar 35mm 1.4 G Master . Yes it's more expensive, larger and heavier than many options, but if resolution, separation, and beautiful bokeh are a priority, nothing in my experience can beat it.

BTW, I still own the A7R2, it is still a top 10 sensor as of today.

I used the Sony 50mm 2.5 G as my only lens for quite some time and I was very happy with it.

I like smaller cameras/lenses so if I needed that ability to crop and budget permitting, my first choice would be the Sony A7CR paired with either the 50mm or 40mm G.

I did read recently that there are rumours of Sony coming out with another high end fixed lens camera this year. Whether this will be an update to the RX line or something entirely new remains to be seen. If it happens then I'm sure it will be expensive but if they can make it smaller than an A7CR then I could be tempted!

I’ve got the Leica Q2 (and other cameras) and my Q2 is my favourite, the quality is outstanding and it’s a joy to use. It’s a 28 lens, which suits me perfectly, but not the 40 lens you’d ideally want….and of course you can’t change lenses on this model. Good luck with your hunt.

I’m loving the Ricoh and the FujiX100v I have. I use both for street.
Go for a compact with a 35mm lens

Its always a challenge to find just the right gear! I have the Q2 and the RX1R mkii and always take the RX1R with me as I prefer the 35mm focal length for street and general shooting. I did try an A7Rii but the shutter was so loud compared to the leaf shutter in the RX1R. I also occaisionally use the Sony 'Clear Image Zoom' on the RX1R to get up to 70mm effective focal length. I cant see much degredation when pixel peeeping, so for me, I have a 35-70mm range. The Zeiss Sonar T lens also has great micro contrast and colours that I could not get with the compact Sony 40mm, 50mm lenses on the A7ii. Downside is its not weather sealed though

Sony 7CR or 7CII, then pick any lens that you desire.

Sony is expected to release a new RX1R, perhaps this year. I would go for Sony A7R or Nikon Zf if you prefer vintage looking one. XT5 is not FF but it is a beast (I’m in love with it).
