Meet the Experts
Pete Chavez Ed.D.,
Director of Education Partnerships
Dr. Chavez taught for 8 years at Clovis East High School and designed online curriculum for their online school. In 2012 he served as an Assistant Principal at Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia where he focused on student discipline and reclassifying the 200 EL students at the school. He also served as a principal at North Monterrey County Middle School where he focused on Professional Learning Communities and improving student test scores.
Dr. Chavez earned his BA in Spanish from California State University, Fresno and his MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Argosy International University in San Francisco. He obtained his doctorate in 2010 from Alliant International University in Fresno in the area of Management and Leadership where his dissertation focused on using two languages to teach content instead of one language.
Brenda Huey-Rosas
ESL Specialist and Primary Author of ELLoquence
Brenda believes that language learning empowers everyone. She is therefore passionate about teaching and learning different languages and cultures. She is the primary author for the product called ELLoquence. Brenda is also an ESL consultant for schools domestically and internationally, helping to build ESL programs and train teachers in ESL curriculum and instruction. She founded and taught in Cornerstone Academy's ESL program for international students, teaching ESL for over 12 years and high school Mandarin for 4 years.
Brenda has a Bachelors degree in Chinese and a Masters degree in English TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from San Francisco State University. She has taught English in China, Taiwan, and Brazil. Brenda is also fluent in Chinese, Portuguese, Cantonese, and Spanish.
