White Threads Floss Tube 87 – revisiting thread twist

I have talked about thread twist before in previous videos. However, today I revisit it. In this video, I bust a few needlework myths, but primarily focus on thread twist and how it stays the same, regardless of what you do with the thread. Many people have had needlework myths passed on to them, usually because they were told to them by someone they respected. It’s important to know how to find out the correct information for yourself, usually by experimentation and trying something for yourself.

Fantastic topic. I used to man a help desk for questions and anyone who asks me a question knows I’ll find out because then l just have to know for myself. Research is the answer and for embroidery physical research (ie trying it) is such a great idea. As usual your floss tubes srimulate the mind and provide joy. 😀

What a great idea to use the cord to show the twist. Makes it super clear. Thank you Yvette.

Couldn't agree more; try it for yourself; then if you still don't understand ask someone you respect to help. It's far too easy to take everything on 'the net' as gospel - and there is some duff information out there.

I remembered what you said about hardanger from a previous floss tube. So many things are forgotten, only to be associated with
what some guy came up with in a office to increase sales.Thank you, your love of your craft shines thru.

Thank you for the demonstration. Two colours certainly help. Great advice regarding"working it through" before asking. Research and investigation can be so illuminating, rewarding and fun, even if you do end up down a "rabbit hole" sometimes.

Thanks for this, I have heard and seen written several comments about thread twist that you have just debunked. I’d really like to know if there is any way to stop your thread from twisting, and therefore knotting? Are some types of thread more likely to knot? Is cotton or silk worse for knotting? I always have to let my needle hang every inch or so of stitching to allow it to unwind, it’s irritating but I have no other solution.
