Greens Leader Adam Bandt says a “hard cap” will be imposed on emissions from energy companies under the new safeguard mechanism legislation.

Mr Bandt stressed that companies would not be able to “buy their way” out of the cap.

“The powers the Minister has under the legislation will be very broad and they can include putting restrictions that could result in effectively stopping the new projects,” said he said during a press conference on Monday.

“Under the legislation, there will be a hard cap on pollution, new coal and gas projects that push emissions above that, as has been included by the government, will now have to be addressed.”

Do you even know the damage Li mining does when compared to coal mining? Which one uses the most hazardous chemicals in processing? Which one has the higher stripping ratio? What is a stripping ratio? You have no idea what you are talking about Mr Badt.
