The reality of the the situation is hilarious when you think about it. If federal gov was drastically shrunk or even eliminated. Then blue states (who pay the most into federal coffers) would be just fine. Red states who are more traditionally rural with little to no economy of their own to speak of, would go down in flames without their federal stipend.

My state (IL) provides more tax revenue per federal expenditure than any other state with the exception of Delaware. South Carolina takes $8 for every $1 of revenue they generate. I would be delighted to keep my taxes in state and watch these red states starve.

It’s such an absolutely ridiculous position, so widely panned by everyone, that there really wasn’t a need for a counter-argument. But I definitely see the need for the counter argument against bailing out huge corporations who spent their tax gufts making their top executives rich by doing stock buybacks rather than propping up their workers and businesses. Two different things though.
