Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy says he has terminal cancer and "two to four years" to live.

Sir Chris, 48, announced in an interview with The Times that his cancer - which was diagnosed as prostate cancer - was terminal - and that he had "known this for over a year."

He revealed earlier this year he was being treated for an unspecified type of cancer and was "optimistic, positive and surrounded by love".

I empathise. I'm in the same position, thought I'd got rid of throat cancer via gruelling radiotherapy and chemo and now they believe it has metastasised in my bones of my back. I'm 71 - sorry this has happened to him at an early age.

Holy moly, so sad so hear this. A guy who has given so much to sport, his country, his family, etc etc, can be told this. Sorry too upset . A true Ambassador.

20 years and more from now people will still be talking about the man and his achievements. Hopefully, 20 years from now people will also be saying "oh look! There's Chris Hoy!" I wish him nothing but the very best.

Such a horrible shame when a great athlete's days are numbered. I hope he spends these next 2-4 years well and wraps his life up well. I wish him and his family the best.

So saddened to hear this and at such a young age. My husband had surgery for stage 2 prostate cancer in 7 years ago and we feel extremely blessed he is still in remission. Even with stage 4 some men can outlive the terrible time limit laid down by the doctors. Everybody is different. On the prostate cancer UK community website there are men who were given Chris's time frame but that was 10 years ago and they are still here. Here's hoping Chris can be one of the lucky ones. 💕🇬🇧

Terrible news. Sir Chris Hoy is a legend & a very charming man. He's inspired so many to take up cycling which is such a great sport. And his wife has MS, what an awful disease. I truly hope that he is kept pain free as I guess he will now have palliative care. I cannot believe this is happening & I wish both Chris & his wife all of my love. Heartbreaking.

1:55 - Being healthy and fit doesn't mean anything to cancer. That's why its so scary, anyone can get it.
