You can actually bend whole planks without needing to cut the wood. It's something that is used to construct pianos, since cutting the wood would take away much of it's strengrh.

No end grain showing without needing to add edging - great

This is quite nice work. I use a similar technique at work, but your method for measuring it out is beautifully done.

If anyone is going to try this, make sure to add the additional length needed to the left side of the cut. The way they showed the measurements in the video wouldn't work.

Metal fabricators have been doing this to tubing for a very long time. But took this guy to apply the technique to wood.

I was taught this by a cabinet maker that's been around forever. Before formica and other veneers became more popular (and for veneers, much more feasible due to the rising costs of hardwood) this was a pretty common practice for hiding end grain on shelves and such. He also showed me a method of right angles that involved leaving a thin veneer of the grain past the end of the shelf, cutting a v notch right where the corner is at with a razor blade, and steaming that corner to fold it with a minimum of cracking. Looked great.

As an electrician who bends emt and plastic all the time, this was incredibly mind blowing. Simple (in theory), but requires insane precision and skill.

No way! An actually useful tip that is not just some random wall plug being screwed into some material that it is completely not meant for

That's one of those custom touches the customer will never appreciate unless they watched it occur or you point it out to them.
I would look at that and think "holy shit how did this God of lumber achieve this".
A homeowner would glance at it and think"cool".🥴

I had no idea you could do something like this. Definitely one of coolest things I've seen in a minute.

I thought it was going to be a stupid life hack. I'm glad I was wrong and watched it all

Best YouTube short I've seen so far. I just started watching these.

In the first part of the video there's a knot in the wood then like magic it's disappeared. So how many takes did it really take to get the wood to bend?

I admire people who are inventive and skilled. I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks.

A biscuit joint between the two glued straight edges would make the joint a lot stronger. (Obviously, dowels are too difficult, but not impossible.)

If only this was taught during geometry class. Maybe I would have stayed awake.
