Thousands of volunteers participated every day for 3+ weeks looking for him (including me). That campsite is located around 10, 800' elevation, meaning the nighttime temperatures were freezing. I know the Bardsley family. They gave every ounce of energy they had to find Garrett, going day after day after day with almost no sleep. They wore themselves out for months. Fantastic family. My heart breaks for them.

Having spent years hiking in the Rockies, often with kids in the Party - the unbreakable rule was: Never go anywhere alone, nor leave anyone solo.

I really hope Garrets dad is doing okay, I can’t imagine the guilt. It wasn’t his fault, and I hope the family gets some peace and finds out what happens one day.

It’s a good thing John is creating such a loyal following so there will be enough of us to defend him when the ‘like’ button comes after him.

Lifelong Alaskan resident here: thank you so much for covering so many different stories and topics from Alaska, we NEVER get this much recognition and SO MUCH strange, dark, and mysterious stuff happens up here!!! Great job and thank you very much Mrballen!!!

Mr Ballen, The Why Files, and Dr Grande keep me going.... They truly are a bright spot in my life. My husband has stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer, I lost my job of 9 years, I had to file Bankruptcy, our dog died, our son died and my mother in law died. All of these things happened within an 8 month period. Watching these videos is somehow soothing and takes my mind off of things. I'm truly grateful.

Garrett’s family lives just up the hill from me. I remember as a kid every year, on the anniversary of his disappearance, they would put together search groups and go look for him. They still go up their hopping to find something.

Stories like Garrett's really terrify a parent. It makes you never want to even let your kids out of your sight and yet as a father I think I would have allowed my son of a similar age make such a short walk over the trail of 150 meters..and yet Garrett is gone. Horrifying.

I still can't believe that people see someone alone on a marathon course at the top of the mountain and just leave him behind. What would it have hurt to wait a few minutes, 15 to 30 to make sure he was gonna make it down? Never fails to amaze me that people just abandon other people like that.

I've been buying camping gear all year and I'm finally stocked and ready to go camping. I couldn't wait for fall. After watching several videos like this, I've decided to wait until a group of us can go. Suddenly, single female solo camping doesn't sound like a good idea.

If someone named Griz Adam's can't find you, you're screwed.

In the deep woods of Michigan sometimes the forest stops. Everything gets quiet suddenly. When I was a kid exploring the wild when this happened I would feel the need to run. And I would run. Anyone who has spent time in those woods will tell you this.

In Rosemary's case, as someone who's been on the edge of just trying to disappear, one way or another...sometimes you do ask for company, because you just need one person to be with you and keep you from falling off. The rejection, being told, even politely, "oh, no thank you." can be devastating at those times. So if you're so close and get told no, I think it's presumptuous to say, "no, she didn't go out and end it because she asked someone to go with her! Why would she do that if she was gonna just go off and die??". Maybe she was planning on going off and ending it, and someone else, especially someone who's young and not that judgmental, like a kid, was the string that was keeping her here. Taking a lunch is to keep up appearances that everything is OK, this is just a little hike, no need to worry! She did just try to talk to her dead husband...maybe she was trying to communicate that she'd be there soon. I wish that kid would've gone with her. I've been there, and I know that just one person is enough to change things. It's awful, and I'm so sorry for her and her family, but, honestly, mostly her. I've been there. I understand. I'm so sorry for her.

I recently learned of missing 411 because of this channel. Went to follow David Paulides and saw his son passed away recently. Very sad. The website ask that (the viewer) "Please pray for Ben's safe journey to heaven." if you like his work please do so. (Edit: please do so even if your not a fan... Send some love to those who need it.)

I have met Garrett’s dad before (Second story’s cases father). I was a boy scout that’s troop actually gave his father a memoriam to be placed at the location he went missing. I’ve talked to his father and have been shown the exact location he has gone missing and the fathers point of view of how it went down. It’s a true sad story.

I used to live in Utah, about an hour drive from where Garrett went missing. Almost exactly 1 year later another boy scout went missing up in those mountains so rumors spread of it being some serial killer or something. I happened to go to boy scout camp days after the second boy disappeared so there were still searchers everywhere. Luckily they found the second boy alive after about a week.
