How to UNSNAG a Fishing Lure without a Retriever!

Snagging fishing lures is a problem ALL anglers encounter at some point. This quick video will show a trick we learned several years ago fishing with Vic Vatalaro on shooting slack at a hung lure to dislodge it from a distance.

A lot of anglers snap line against their rod to vibrate their lure loose, but the standing and travelling wave (physics) theory and method is a lot more effective when done correctly.

Jason Sealock shows us how to properly send a wave of slack down the line to free your snagged lure

It's fast, easy, and effective for getting lures unhung.

Thank you Jason. Tried doing it the other way and Never had any luck. Your way definitely works. Snagged my lipless up like 4 times today and got it back every time. You the man brother

Man I wish I'd learned this years ago. I lost countless lures to snags and not knowing how to deal with them, but since I started using this trick I've actually saved several expensive lures and jigs that otherwise looked and felt like they were going to stay stuck at the bottom of a pond or lake for all eternity.

Finally something that works. last night I took my grandson fishing, he got snagged didn't say anything and the rod went overboard, then he put a crankbait on and got snagged, he pulled and pulled despite me telling him not to do that, then it came loose and a small bass grabbed it and he reeled like mad and tried to pull it in the boat, the little bass spit the hook while he was lifting it in and the hook went into my boat top, so I came home minus one rod and reel and had one flicker shad stuck in my boat top.Larry, Curly and Moe got nothing on us !

I'm amazed that this technique is either unknown or is not used correctly. But I actually grab the line above my rod with my left hand and twang the line with the right hand-I don't have the rod as part of it at all. All of the energy goes to the lure and isn't dampened by the rod. There is enough shock force with just the line to get the lure unstuck- yes- even with braid!

Works for me all the time. Simple science at it's best.

Thanks Jason, brilliant use of physics and works great.
Taking the kids fishing does get tedious un staging for them or retying, now that can sort themselves easily.

Thank you, I'm passing on up.

Cheers Gaz

When my lers get hung up I revert the wave at the ler

You want to aim the "bow" line towards the lure. That way the energy is moving towards the hook point as much as possible.

This makes sense! I'll give it a try next time I'm on the water.

Worked the first time for me, didn't work the second time. 50/50 so far... but I do appreciate retrieving the one that I saved!!

Definitely worth a try! I'm game to try anything to save some money on a lost lure.
