Im very surprised that theres very little to no videos surrounding this topic. Ive always wondered how they connected the beams to make it longer. Ive been searching videos on how to join two ridge beams and finally Ive found one. Thanks

Hi Mr Buildsum! I am a big fan of you and I finished my apprenticeship watching your videos. Better than the Tafe teacher I should say. And now I am a licensed carpenter and assessor and still use your valuable stuff to show people in their gap training. Great stuff. Some people must have subscribed to your channel already. Thanks for all your hard work.

Thanks for this! I'm building a 40' long garage and will need to join two 20' pieces.

When i built my house, my ridge length was 40’. My ridge board was 2 - 24’ 2x10’s. I used a 3/4” dado on a skill saw and cut 6 tenons 4’ in length on each board. 6 males and 6 females. I applied gorilla glue to the tenons and slid the two boards together then clamped into place. Once dried, it was lifted into place and rafters attached. Total time 1 1/2 hours.

This makes me feel better because I did this and wasn’t sure if this was the correct way to do it.

How do you nail 2x fishplates from opposite sides? The nails will hit each other and it might split the ridge. I don't understand.

Thank you for making this video, your method is easy to understand, showing a model of what you are explaining is really good. A question i have is in the UK it is difficult to get 19mm material to make a fish plate, ridge board depth often being 225mm deep, could i use ply or something like OSB sheet material ?

Does this work for a ridge beam as well? Wondering if it will support a load or if it is just for a ridge board. Thanks!
