Those are some incredible Hales speakers. They were some of the top speakers you could buy at the time. Paul Hales was considered a speaker guru for his time and when Hales Speaker Group went out of business he formed Theory Audio Design. Hales Speakers started at around $5K for bookshelf speakers up to $100k for custom designs. A lot of money at the time (and still today). Their imaging were supposed to be out of this world, but you have to pair them with a high-end amp. Once you clean them up, they will probably blow you away with their sound. Nice haul.

I work at a record store, and we just got a 3k Record collection, with the most INSANE gear along with it (a mint condition technics 1200 is the cheapest peice of gear in the collection). And this collection has some amazing things in it (mint condition mono beatles and dylan records, poppy label townes van zandt, almost every john prime, early mobile fidelity sound labs stuff, and many more). Ive been struggling to not take some of these records for myself!

Looks like alot of 70" era Lps. For the Classical albums....US pressings: look for early 60's Columbia, Mercury, RCA Red Seals and Living Stereo's. Imports: look for EMI/Angel, Argo, Deutsche Grammophon, Philips, Telefunken, Decca/London FFRR's are generally very good sounding pressings (look for a G in pressing number in the deadwax). Hard to go wrong with Japanese pressing. When in doubt, often the quality of the printing and construction of the jacket while tell the story. Classical records need to be very clean due to the quiet passages. Hope this helps.

Good for you taking the time to learn Classical. I own a few and some 78s. I know very little, but do like the ones I have.

I know America is huge, including your states, but man, you get some incredible stuff.

A good guide to classical is that German and UK pressings (U.S sometimes) from the 50s-70s are generally valuable. That's what I usually look for at thrift stores.

I love your videos. I find them very relaxing as I spend a lot of time absorbing international news. So, 1, 100 classical music records? That’s 5 or 6 records to research a day, every day, for 200 days. If I lived in the neighbourhood I'd volunteer to do that for you, no charge. I love the random treasure hunting aspect of collecting. I’m sure there’s some gold in that box pile. Happy hunting!

I wonder if that was my friend Carl. H. He used to review opera for national magazines.

Rob in Spain and Alan in the UK would dig the classical.

Original presses of George Cziffra and the Oistrakh brothers can be worth a fair bit, as well as audiophile boxed sets.

Hales are a fantastic loudspeaker, some of their reference models had resinous concrete front baffles so can be mega heavy. Are you selling the Hales?
