One of the worst changes in a game ever: in the original Link's Awakening You didn't get a necklace from the fisherman, but a bikini top. That also explains why the mermaid is really pissed off when You dive close to her. It changes with the color version to a necklace. Seems Nintendo decided thas implying the mermaid is naked is too risky
