Belgium is based on the word Gallia Belgica which comes from the Romans which was province and means in Latin low country.

So interesting that because of those historical ties with Spain, I have a Mexican ancestor from the 16th century Nueva España who was Dutch! His surname from the Netherlands changed a tad and became a very common Mexican one in the area of Zacatecas nowadays.
