In India we use the leaves directly in vegetables or any other dish directly as individual leaves or into a paste. Also made into powder with cumin seeds, salt and dried chillies and eat it with steaming hot rice and ghee.Curry leaves are good for digestion and has anti cancer properties.

Luke, you have my heart. I totally agree with what you said. I’m Indian and make curries everyday, twice a day mostly. I can’t do without these curry leaves in my curries. Also you can add curry leaves while making homemade ghee. Smells divine and tastes delicious. Promotes hair growth too along with so many additional benefits. Back home we have tons of plants growing in our backyard, tender and fresh. Gosh I miss it.
I buy a pack of leaves for $0.99 at my local Indian grocers every week. I’m going to try to grow them from seeds I have bought from India recently. Fingers crossed.

Super excited for this video. Everyone says this tree is easy to grow, but not from seed! I just grew new trees from seeds. Took some experimenting to get them started, but even the first stem and tiny leaves have the wonderful aroma!!

I wish you would have said that there is a difference between the curry leaf, and curry powder found in markets. The powder is a mix of spices like masala, ginger, tumeric, pepper, etc.. You did say green curry, but most people will only hear curry. Always enjoy your videos!

Thank you

In most recipes the leaves are "tempered" with the rest of the spices in the pan. The aroma and flavor is beyond beautiful.

You saved my 4th attempt at growing coffee plant so when my curry started waking up this spring, I knew to keep it looking it's best I would need to look for your advice on caring for it.

Love this plant. Very distinctive and unique flavor and a must have for Indian foodies. Brilliant addition to basmati.

last year i bought a curry leaves packet from the indian store, and just stuck one of the twigs in a pot. the thing actually grew and we are able to harvest leaves every now and then for curries. its about a foot and a half tall now (compared to about 3 inches when i first planted it). now i'm here to figure out how to make it branch out a little. i know nothing about growing plants. and i can't believe that little thing went from a patel brothers fridge to actually getting new life.

Curry leaves 🍃 are mostly used for tempering . It adds great aroma and flavor to the dishes. It’s native to sub content.

If you look at its benefits, even if you do not like it, you would want to use. It has everything that keeps you young, hair, skin, eye sight and everything that comes with it. Who does not want to be healthy and young?
That is how I started using in my dishes. My mom always used it and I would make a face to eat it but now I use it in almost every dish. Very informative video.

Ah! My favorite....love this plant...it tends to grow very little in colder temps but loves heat n sun n humidity! I use it in tempering dal or stir frying veges. And to prune it...if it is big enough and you want it to be bushier, prune the top and you'll get a new branch from the next node.

I really appreciate you doing this series for plants lesser known in the US. Curry leaves are a must in my household and I have an potted plant just like yours. However mine hasn't grown any side shoots, it it growing upwards on a single stem. I'm going to try pruning the top during the growing season.

Then it clicked we live in Florida n someone might be growing it.. so asked in an Indian group n we got a sapling today... m so excited coz we use it on daily basis n Indian store is too far away to go every time. I looked all over for a Curry Leaf Plant a few years ago and could not find it. So I went to the grocery store and found a few packs of curry leaves that had some 6+ inch stems on the leaves. I took them home and rooted them. Three years later, I have a 2 1/2 or 3 foot tall bush. Proud of that little bush, but can't help to think that it should be bigger with more stems growing out of the soil.
