Hey Plano - Do you know who your Council member is?

This is a trick question because we frequently hear from Plano residents who want to speak to their City Council member. Plano's local government isn't like Congress, where those who serve represent a particular district or area. All of Plano’s council members run and serve at large. They each represent the entire city. So instead of having one Council member - you have 8, including the Mayor! Of the eight Council Places, candidates running and serving in places one, two, three and four must reside in that district. Living in those first four districts is the only difference separating Council Members in places one through four from places five through eight. Each Council member serves a four-year term. They’re limited to two consecutive terms. Elections are held every two years, alternating between even and odd places.
