I want to see an episode where every guest is named Tom.

4:51 Editor, you missed your chance by not replacing Tom's nameplate with 'Other Tom' for those remaining few seconds of this episode.

I think we have had three Toms on the show now (Scott, Lum, & Crawford). If we also put Tomska (Ridgewell) in there then we can have an episode with four Toms!

The Dutch username translates to 'Between Art and Quarantine'.

The fact that “other” Tom recreated the image is something we can only get on the video version.

It really makes me wish we had full episodes on YouTube😢.

When they suggest it's a challenge to recreate a famous piece of art, my mind immediately went to the Scream

Tussenkunstenquarantine - is that a refference to “tussen kunst en kitch”? I think so.

(Tussen kunst en kitch -> between art and kitch. It’s a tv show where people bring their antiques and an expert tells them whether it is art or kitch, and what the story behind it is, and what it’s worth.)

“between art and quarantine” would be the translation for ‘tussenkunstenquarantine’

Tom Crawford's comment about Mr. Potatohead reminded me that the original toy was just the stuck on bits. You had to provide your own potato. Or other vegetable or fruit.

that 'primary Tom rule' / award scheme is great!

tricks.

I got this about 60 seconds before Tom when she said it was important how the items were positioned. Up till then I was trying to come up with a pun for the name of the artwork.

Not that they mentioned it, but the gap where the pit was removed would have made a great mouth.

I had never heard of the Getty Museum before today, and was curious if it was related to Getty Images which apparently it is, I'd always thought Getty Images was just a corny was of saying Get images.

I really wish they would link to stuff in the description. A link to the photo would be great. Similarly a link to news stories for lateral questions in general would be appreciated.

Mr Scott, you'll always be Proper Tom to me.

Fun fact: the Getty Museum also has an original copy of Fiore dei Liberi's "Flor di Battaglia" manuscript, which is one of the most complete surviving manuals for Medieval combat. If you ever see reenactors fighting with longswords (e.g. at a Renaissance Faire), there's a good chance that they've studied a translation of that manual.

I knew this one immediately because I made a round for my local pub trivia based on that challenge. My favorite piece, that I couldn't use in the trivia and can't find anymore, was somebody recreating "Napoleon Crossing the Alps" by Jacques-Louis David, with the subject astride a Samoyed dog instead of the horse.

I got it as soon as Evan suggested it being a recreation of a famous piece of art

Need to do an episode of Lateral with an all Tom panel, Battle Of The Toms.
