I've nice memories of Matala. 1983 I was backpacking around Greece & in May slept in a cave on the beach.
Zero toursist, nothing for tourists then, no cafes, no shops, just a beautiful secret.
That said, I must go back soon & remember all those years ago.

Matala ist so wonderful. Back then, my sister and I drove a scooter from Stalis to Matala. It was a bit of a strenuous tour trought the heat, which was arround 40 degrees that day. Matala is the former Hippie stronghold of the late sixties. The sea and the rock caves are special

Matala is definitely a place we want to visit, seems to have a chilled out hippie, bohemian vibe.

Thanks for the update on life in Matala right now - good to see places opening up. For your information, there is the regular 'Street Painting' event scheduled for 26/27 June weekend. However the 'Music Festival' is unlikely to take place this year but should return in 2022! :-)

Sure, the place itself is still nice to visit for few days, but the „Spirit of Matala“ its gone. I just felt that when I was there the last time… Pity
