Lyrics

I feel complete
I lose all control
I lose all control
I respond

I feel chills
I wake
I know on those lonely nights
I know on those lonely nights

I know everything
I lose all control
I get chills
I know on those lonely nights

I die
I hear all that is left to be heard
I wish you would never stop
I've got a feeling

I live near
I live for you now
I leave no sense behind
I feel complete

I've got a feeling
I wish you moving like rain
I'll be there
I'll be there
I lose all control

[violin instrumental]

When you whisper my name
When you whisper my name
When you whisper my name, whisper my name
When you whisper my name

Ooooooooh (x3)

Whisper ...

When you ...
Whisper ...

When you ...

[instrumental ending]

I am a 63 year old man and I am not prone to cry easily, for many of us know that many people say that for a man to weep is not masculine and shows us to be weak in some way, I say bollox to all that, why? Because when I got to the end of the film "Youth" and listened to this heavenly emotionally stirring song, well at that point I could not possibly hold back my tears, I wept like baby. To all the men that stop themselves shedding tears because they feel its wrong of them to do so, or because that they may feel they will lose respect from others, or that they may be seen as wishy washy, I say to you... LET THOSE TEARS FLOW, YES LET THEM COME, after all you are human too, as I am, me the one that thought he couldn't be made to cry. If you want to sense the wonder of being human and what it means to love, then listen to this, Simple Song 3. I am now on my way to buy the sound track so that I can cry some more. Love you all!

tasteless Oscars have no appreciation for art of that magnitude....this is a simple sound of the deepest feeling, pure, primal, human...

YOUTH...all thru the movie this man, a conductor, one whom always controls, is quietly and stubbornly resisting- until this moment when he opens his arms to direct the first violin passage. For a moment we think he may not release and then, in a flood of exquisite sound Sumi Jo shows us his soul in the lyrics of his abandon, his passion, all supported by a rising crescendo from the orchestra. Breathtaking.

Trying to put into words what this piece of music does to our collective soul is extraordinarily difficult. Such emotion, such beauty. Every person who makes a comment here does so with love and that in itself is very special. And here's a hug for anybody who needs one! xx

This scene took my breath away. Stunning. One of the most beautiful moments, in a film, ever. So unexpected.

The moment she started singing, tears ran down my face non stop, and I wasn't even sure why I was crying. I was so moved by her singing and when the orchestral music swelled. Maybe as Jason Silva says about Alain De Botton quote - that we sometimes cry because something is more beautiful than we expected.

'Simple songs' is indeed a true masterpiece just as pretended in the plot. It adds an unmatched level of credibility to this brilliant movie.

I first heard this piece watching the film in a small private cinema whilst living in China. I was maybe 3 months into a year long stay and beginning to make friends. Two Chinese friends invited me to join them, we weren’t particularly close at the time. After watching this film we were all individually, and, unanimously struck by its beauty. To find two people in central China, and to have such a warm connection with them made my heart soar. Needless to say, these two people became some of my best friends. Listening to this reminds me of that moment, and that feeling of sharing in its beauty, the feeling of acceptance and familiarity in a place that can be so lonely for a new foreigner. This piece both fills me with happiness and an immense sadness at what I had, and have now lost.

I feel complete
I lose all control
I lose all control
I respond

I feel chills
I break
I know all those lonely nights
I know all those lonely nights

I know everything
I lose all control
I get a chill
I know all those lonely nights

I die
I hear all that is left to be heard
I wish you would never stop
I've got a feeling

I live there
I live for you now
I leave no sense behind
I feel complete

I'll be there
I lose all control

I can't describe in words how profoundly affected I am by this song. It is beauty beyond description. Takes my breath away every time I listen to it. David Lang is a true master! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful creation.

I watched the film at an outdoor summer cinema and it was a wonderful experience. Listening to this song in front of a big screen at 12 midnight under the stars.. ❤️

I loved the film and I loved this song. But I don't want to listen to it too often - I want to experience it after watching the film again.

Was supposed to see this movie with a beautiful girl I had recently met. She cancelled last minute, but I had already bought the tickets. Went to see it alone, as I had been waiting to see Sorrentino's newest for months, and never have I ever felt more hard-hit by solitude in the cinema. One of the subjects of the film is spending time with other people, so by the end of it this song had me in tears. On a happier note, bravo Paolo Sorrentino!
