Kamila Valieva will take to the ice for the first time after the acquittal verdict of the RUSADA Disciplinary Committee at the Channel One Cup. The competition opens the year 2023 for our skaters. Unlike previous years, the program of the tournament is compact - only two competition days: January 21 and 22.

Alyona Leonova also commented on the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary committee to exonerate Kamila Valieva.

Valiyeva tested positive at the Russian Championship 2022. This became known after Kamila helped the Russian team win the team tournament at the Olympic Games in Beijing, for which medals have not yet been awarded. After the investigation, the RUSADA Disciplinary Committee applied only one penalty to Valiyeva - cancelled her result at the 2022 Russian Championship. However, WADA had previously referred the case to CAS.

"I wouldn't want to say ahead of time, but I hope that everything will turn out in Kamila's favor. We hope and believe that WADA will come to terms with this decision, " Leonova quotes Tatar-Inform.

Russian figure skaters Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin were considering an option to continue their careers with the Georgian national team, RIA Novosti reported, citing a source close to the situation.

According to the agency, talks about a potential move of the dance duo to Georgia were held in the fall, but negotiations ended unsuccessfully.

Earlier this week, news broke that Davis and Smolkin were considering a move to the Israeli national team. In the summer, it was reported that the skaters might move to the U.S. team.

Head of the Israeli Figure Skating Federation Boris Hait commented on the information that the Russian dance duo Diana Davis - Gleb Smolkin plans to move to the national team of Israel.

Earlier this was reported by R-Sport and American journalist Dave Leese.

"I have no such information. To be honest, I've been laughing for the third day. No one has contacted me on this matter.

Would the federation want to see such a pair? The federation of Israel would love to win a million dollars in the lottery, so we could live easier and have the money to send the kids to competitions. Talking about getting someone is wrong, the decision is not up to us, " Hait said.

Also, the head of the Israeli federation noted that he does not consider Liza a journalist.

"He's not a journalist, he's a blogger, " Hait added.

Aleksey Zheleznyakov, the choreographer of the group of Eteri Tutberidze, believes that he should not have offended Alexandra Trusova by his words about the skater's skipping the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk.

Trusova withdrew from the tournament because of a high temperature and malaise. Zheleznyakov said that Alexandra "got scared of the competition" and "ran away from the Russian Championships."

"A lot of people know me as an emotional person. I overreacted because of past grievances, I did not know what kind of shape Alexandra is in, it was my assumption, not the team. I think I shouldn't have said that and hurt the girl, " Zheleznyakov said.

Silver medalist of the 2012 World Championships in women's singles skating Alyona Leonova spoke out about Alexandra Trusova's withdrawal from the 2023 Russian Championships.

Trusova came to Krasnoyarsk, but on the day of the short program it became known that she will not take to the ice because of health problems - high temperature.

"As for Sasha, due to the fact that she did not perform at the Russian Championships, she can not perform at the Channel One Cup, as it involves only the top 8 skaters. Tales of illness? Some people believe it, some people don't. I am ready to believe it, because the flu was very serious, and I myself have been ill recently. Anything can happen.

Here's the Olympics story about poor Vincent Zhou, for example. Well, he must have been ready and wanted to show his program. But he was diagnosed with a covid, and the man missed the Olympics. No one is safe from that. And everyone knows how bad the flu was. So if she really went to compete, she was ready. I believe in the story about the disease", - "Tatar-Inform" quotes Leonova.

Olympic diving champion and sports journalist Elena Vaitsekhovskaya reacted to the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to deny Russia the right to host the Grand Prix in the season 2023 - 2024.

"The decision to deny Russia the right to host the Grand Prix is, in fact, a decision about nothing. It contains nothing new, except that it dispels the illusions of those who sincerely thought that the situation regarding the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions could change in the near future.

For figure skaters, on the one hand, this decision does not change the current competitive situation: it remains exactly the same as we have seen this season, with domestic Grand Prix stages, Channel One Cups, and other animation.

On the other hand, the officially announced position of the ISU, or rather, not even it, but the second consecutive season of isolation, is a kind of powder keg for the Russian Figure Skating Federation.

The point is not even that athletes might start looking for options for changing their sporting citizenship: this process will not turn out to be widespread, if only because it is always much easier to go with the flow than to change your own life. And the fact that the format of the Russian Grand Prix, which was implemented last autumn, clearly was not popular with the public. In the second version, interest in the tournaments (and in figure skating in general) will probably decline even more. And this is a much bigger problem than the right to host competitions, " Vaitsekhovskaya wrote in her Telegram channel.

Two-time Olympic champion figure skater Yevgeny Plushenko spoke out about the suspension of Russians from international tournaments.

"Performances in the international arena without Russian athletes is not a competition, but a light mode. Everyone knows very well that Russian athletes are some of the most powerful and strongest competitors. It is better to skate with strong opponents than to win in one goal.

It is foolish to restrain Russian athletes by including sports in the political game. All our opponents shout that sport is beyond politics, but we all see perfectly well: politics is number one. And it has outgrown all norms, " said Plushenko.

Alina Zagitova, the 2018 Olympic women's singles skating champion, announced a vocal number at the "Figure Skating Lovers" show on February 14.

"Always loved to sing (and not just in the shower)! I'm preparing a surprise for you and rehearsing to go on stage with one of my favorite artists - you definitely did not expect such a duet. Come to Figure Skating Lovers on February 14 - oh, what will happen!" - Zagitova wrote in her Telegram channel.

Zagitova announced the suspension of her career in December 2019 and has not competed since then. Alina is studying journalism and works on television as a correspondent and presenter, and the figure skater also takes part in various ice shows.
