How to enable the new 'dark theme' on YouTube

Also:
right click on the white zone
Inspect element
look for the "background " feature which's value is "transparent"
select "transparent"and start typing whatever color you want
choose that color
enter

This is great. I really miss the subscription groups youtube had for a while. I was nice having different sub boxes for different styles of content.

"Tightens up the design in general" yeah, tightens the design by using large text and adding a ton of white space and making all of the buttons huge.

I had dark theme enabled, I removed all cookies and it got reset. I don't remember having to do this.

Youtube has already closed the opt-in mechanic, I guess we'll have to wait for the full release :/

Thanks for this, for some reason my youtube lost the new format after clearing the cache but going to the site and getting in now, fixed it.

Thank god, finally it's here. Only had to wait 10 years. Lets hope they add the dark theme to the whole android os.

I'm so sad, I got a new laptop today and now I can't get the "new" designed YouTube version... At least I have it on my desktop. And as for a dark theme and a redesign for the mobile YouTube app, that would be so nice as sometimes you want the screen to be as dark as possible when you're in bed and don't want a bright light keeping you awake. I'm honestly surprised that Google didn't release the dark theme and updated design together with desktop versions of YouTube.

The new redesign looks too stretched out and they removed some features in your homepage. Material design looks good though
