Fixing Up a Damaged Generator (Part 1)

Part 1!

In today's video, we'll be looking at a 4450w (3550 running watt) Champion Generator (Model: 100459) that I purchased from a local wholesaler.

I'm naming this one "Project Tilted."

This Generator has significant damage to the metal frame, plastic air filter cover, as well as the plastic console that houses all of the electrical plugs and switches.

Other than the damage to those components, the engine and generator itself don't appear to have any damage. It also doesn't have any oil in it, as it's brand new and hasn't been run.

After a quick damage report (to inspect what else may be in need of replacement) I put some oil into the engine to see if it makes spark.

If this 3550w Champion Generator is worth saving, I'll order some parts to fix it up, and follow up with a part 2!

I have 3 Champion generators two for myself and one I just bought for my parents. Their products are good but customer service no bueno. A dual fuel I purchased had a cracked plastic panel on it out of the box so it was a warranty replacement but just getting them to email a tracking number on the part took an act of Congress, after talking to multiple people and about a month going by, I got my part. Will be interesting to see how it goes for you. Thanks again for making these videos kid, I always learn something from you, always! You always keep it interesting!

Thanks for sharing this generator with us. Looks like a fun and profitable project. I know someone who has used a champion generator for several years to power their trailer from which they sell BBQ. I would buy that brand knowing how it has stood up to the long run time that has been put on his.

I think I would use a slide hammer and pull tank fitting out again

Nice little project Jake. Hope you can get all the parts. Guess they didn’t see it fall off the truck with all that ‘camo’! Lol (I know bad joke) . Are you going to tig it yourself? Looking forward to pt 2. Stay Safe. Rick

A little bit of damage is saying it lightly, wow this thing got whacked, looks like it fell off a high lift truck bed. Thought you were gonna say "well that's not good" when the fuel was leaking, i always get a good chuckle when you say that. A really good video other than gassing the OLD MAN out of the shop.
