Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure Introduction

Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure is when your local infrastructure and your cloud infrastructure create a seamless network. As an administrator you no longer view cloud and local as unique infrastructure, but rather as a single network map.

AWS, MS Azure and VMware offer solutions to allow you to begin the migration of your infrastructure to the cloud.

What makes a hybrid cloud infrastructure?
-Both Virtualization and Web Services offered
-Ability to control virtual network
-Ability to robustly connect to local network
-AD Connector

Who offer hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions?
-AWS
-MS Azure
-VMware

Security Concerns for migrating to the cloud?
-Any server connected to a network that is connected to the Internet is on the "cloud"
-Local network is vulnerable to physical damage and attack
-Your admin probably is not doing their job as a far as security goes

Why hybrid cloud now?
-The cloud is not just the future, but the present
-The longer you take to migrate the easier/ cheaper it will be
-If you find a provider does not work for you it's easier to migrate 2-3 servers to a new solution vs. your entire infrastructure.

I'd just like to point out - Amazon EC2 are full virtual servers. They have 2 options for just storage: EBS is bulk storage only accessible from withing AWS services (such as EC2 servers), S3 is public facing and can host any data you need to access from outside AWS services (like static website content).

Useful information. I am not a system admin - but I would like to know more about how somebody goes about planning backup and recovery for infrastructure that lives in the cloud. I fully understand the importance of moving infrastructure to the cloud - but backup (and more so recovery) always seems to be an issue regardless of where the infrastructure is physically located.
