How to complete a successful DIY Probate

Thank you Phil, after listening to you I downloaded the probate forms and the inheritance forms from HMRC. The forms do look daunting but I eventually filled them in and I also applied for my late fathers Nil Band Rate who died in 1977.
So with my late mother’s Nil Band Rate and my dads we had Double the inheritance tax threshold from £325, 000 to £ £650, 000 Which more than covered my mums estate, in other words there’s no tax to pay.
I filed the probate forms at the probate office 3 weeks ago and now my probate has been granted and I only paid £215 + £3 for copies.
My wife’s boss is not happy, he waited 6 months for probate and the solicitors charged him £6, 000.

We have already informed banks of mum in laws demise, registrar has informed all government departments, we have informed miners pension, I can't see what is left for a solicitor to do!

My Mum past in November without a Will and my printer broke down so I phoned HRMC myself to get the form posted myself been waiting over 2 months. I didn't realise i could download it. Might have to get a new printer if it doesn't turn up this week.

Is there anywhere l can read outcomes of Probate Court hearings? Are they published anywhere as Precedents (with names deleted of course.)
